Smell of fuel and engine light?

Left the car outside last night, went out this morning just a couple of miles, the engine light came on and it stunk of petrol!
Got it home smell was from the drivers side so checked all the pipework in that area, checke the plugs wern't wet and still no joy.
The smell seems to have gone now but the light is still on. Could it be the injectors frozen and now are ok??
Cheers
