OK then folks, after some deliberation in the staff area and coming up with alternatives for the photo shoot, we have got what we think is a very good option.

We have been in touch with Brands Hatch, Goodwood and Dunsfold with regards trying to arrange something not just as a good photo opporunity but as something over and beyond for SES Members. And Brands Hatch have come up with an option which I think ticks all the right boxes.

Brands have what they call "Taster Sessions" which are 20 minute track sessions for 22 cars at a time, so if we get a total of 22 cars we can book the last Taster Session of a day or if we get 44 cars (or somewhere very close) we can have the last 2 sessions of the day. Giving us exclusivity on the track for that duration. Having talked to Nick at brands, they have agreed to let us use the down time either between sessions or after the last session to arrange the photoshoot on the track, meaning anywhere we like.

As part of this we have abandoned the cars spelling out SES as unfeasable but have thought instead about all of the cars lined up on the Starting grid, on Paddock Hill Bend, In the Pits or anywhere else we can think of.

Now, you are probably thinking that this all sounds like a pretty expensive option. But heres the best bit. You get 20 mins track time plus the photo opportunity for the grand price of £25.00 per car.

Yes you did read that bit correctly by the way...

That is cheap, great deal!! But..I would like to be part of the photo shoot, but I have no interest in driving round the track.

I know what you are saying Paul, but i would think they would only let you on track for the photo's if you have been on one of the taster sessions.

no problem mate, if that is the case I wont be in the shoot. It is a great idea though, should be popular.

This doesn't mean that the photo shoot for people who don't want to do this is off by the way. This is an added extra. We may have to move the "Big Free" shoot towards the summer and then find a decent sized venue.

This is a good opportunity to introduce people to circuit driving with no hassle or competition that will also double up as a fantastic photo opportunity for SES. And to that end too good to pass up.

Fantastic work to organize this at a great price.......unfortunately, there's no way I'd be happy putting the Leggy on a track with her standard brakes so you'll have to count me out as it's a 'no track, no photo' kinda deal.

I'm defo still up for a shoot whenever one come's along though......providing MrX can add his Leggy in as well otherwise the shoot's gonna be all wonky with only one ;)

Nige Evo might like to think he's Fooking quick. 1st havent done a track in the Evo. 2nd i dont have the Fooking Evo untill next month. 3rd all them big bhp Scoobys are going to pick on me. 4th can i have 2 x 20 mins please. :drive:

Would do this.... however i may need permission from Brands.

Because i have done 3 full track days there i am not allowed on novice sessions, so would have to make sure they'd allow me on.

(they check your driving licence every time you do a track session there, so would know how many times i have been there i think)

Do we know the noise limit for the track sessions??

Is it the usual 105db??

I have been on the indy at Brands 3 times and have never had mine checked.
I have checked myself with DB meter and its 109Db
I have a calibrated Db meter at work if anyone wants to check theres prior to going to a track day.

Si and Myself both have full 3inch Nur spec R's

Might just come down to luck.

I have done 3 full days (and a 6 lap session we don't mention) and have been noise tested every time.

As far as i know some local residents have complained about the noise, so they have to be tighter on the noise regs nowadays

I think my car makes a far more annoying noise with the bung in but if that's what it takes to get out there that's fine... It's always in the car in case I need so let's see.

Would be good to test it if you are able to bring the db meter to a meet sometime mate. If I remember correctly the test is something like 1m from the exhaust at 45 degrees at 4k revs...

Yes mate,it may be 4.5k revs, not sure.
I leant the Db meter to Worzel and CJ so they could test theres last week when they were up Surrey RR, so they will be able to confirm the correct test method.
I had to use my bung at Bedford as they are very tight on noise up there.
Bloomin awfull with bung in.
I will bring it to a meet , no problem

As has be vaguely mentioned before, do we have (or are we going to find out) an idea on what the deal will be as far as photos for those that can't get on track for a taster session, either through noise or like Gary/Clive etc have been on a few to many trackdays to need a taster??

For Reference Keiths Wagon was 98dB and mine was 97dB down at Goodwood a few years back. Both similar exhausts (H&S Downpipe, H&S Centre, TSL Grp'N' Rear Box).

I have got to ask but what sort of gear do you need to go on these sessions crash helmet etc.Sorry if it's a silly question but only been on track with a bike.

Usually Crash Helmet and arms and legs covered... Take a look at the trackday section of the Motor Sport Vision website, lots of info there :)

Trackday Noise Regs:

The initial test is a static test which is carried out using a handheld meter. Each car is measured 0.5 meters away from the exhaust at a 45 degree angle when the engine is being held at ¾ of the maximum RPM. In cases where the vehicle has two separated exhausts the measurement will be taken as below from the median point between the two.

Brands, Indy Circuit (daytime) 105dB(A)

Brands, Indy Circuit 102dB(A) Some events are 98dB(A)

Brands GP Circuit 101dB(A) there is also a 92dB(A) drive by limit measured at 20m away.


Special equipment:

Helmets are required for all events. There are helmets available for hire. In open top vehicles, a full face helmet must be worn and arms and legs must be covered whilst on circuit.

Date wise, the one that springs to mind is Wednesday 21st April. We have a full evening available for £99 or there are four £25 taster sessions (17:40, 18:20, 19:00, 19:40) as well. Currently there are no bookings for the 18:20 and 19:40 so I could reserve them for your members to have exclusively. This would let everyone have at least one session and then there is an option for a second if anyone wants it. Also I could also see if we can use the downtime between 17:00-17:20 for a photo shoot.
