Private work for a friend of a friend
2 Attachment(s)
Started work on a wagon yesterday for a friend of a friend, me and my mate are changing the gearbox, rear diff, prop sharft, timing belt, headlights, clutch, manifold and a short shifter. Started Yesterday around 1pm and managed to get the Gearbox, rear diff, rad, cam covers off and fitted the clutch but had to stop after that as i was in pain, after the gearbox landed on my ribs and chest under the car... WOW is that thing heavy when you have limited space to move and when it is ontop of you...I could not move at all, after my mate stopped his laughing fit he decided to help me.. Does anyone know the weight of the gearbox and half of the prop??
Here's a couple pictures of the car... |
Good suff matey.
I did the clutch on my scoob 2 years ago, on my drive with axle stands. Pulled gearbox off onto chest and fook me thought i was going to die, that with the remaining gearbox fluid pissing all over me. Good job my brother was on hand to asist, otherwise i would have been pinned under the car. I didnt rush mine and it took whole weekend, i will never be doing it again, although its easy enough, its just far to much grief,it will be heading to Tony for the next one. |
Cheers mate, i am so glad that someone else done the same thing as me... just was not ready for it at all. I left half of the prop in so the fluid didn't go all over me... Im still in pain now, the gearbox managed to wedge itself between my ribs, chest and the bottom of the car. i wanted to laugh as it was kind of funny but every time i did so it squashed me even more.... Think next time when i do mine i might just use a trolly jack and support the back of the box...It was a painfull mistake, so lets hope i learn from it..

You are right mate not alot can be done, might wrap a bandage round your chest and tell you to take it easy
|
It works out I fractured 2 of my fingers, doctor im working for said i had... quote... 'fractured the metacarpal bones where they meet the carpometacarpal joints'
I got her to write it down Did it nearly 2 weeks ago. Still a bit tender at the moment, but feeling better and getting movement back. Didn't bother with hospital as my nearerst is East Surrey, not best or cleanest hospital. Relying on self mend. With ribs, it may be worth a trip to the hospital for an x-ray. better to be safe than sorry |
5 speed box weights about 70kg , much easyer to do on a ramp ;)
