Steve's Bugeye WRX PPP

Never had a thread on my car on here, so thought i'd sort one out. Its very much one of the slowest on here :ugeek: so rather than get drawn into listing the performance mods, i thought i'd just put a load of random pics up so you can see how the cars changed over the last 3 years :)

Call it a picture story-book, if you like!

Taken on my mobile phone the day i first saw it, after a test drive. Enough to get the money out :ok:

Lucky 22-07-2010 10:42 PM

Looking good steve. One of the nicest bug's around. :ok:Oh and yes, SPOILER!!. Either a lip, or STi one. There is no middle ground!

Mortster 22-07-2010 11:46 PM

About time Steve, loving the new grills, really work well with the car.

Nige 23-07-2010 01:00 AM

Likeing the new grill's mate. Nice car & has served you well. :drive:

666subaru 23-07-2010 04:45 AM

Looking good as always Steve, and yes get rid of the table top and stick something big in its place, keep up the hard work buddy, grills look very good and suit the car.:ok::ok:

Steve_PPP 23-07-2010 08:23 AM

cheers guys, managed to pick the grilles up off a guy on scoobynet, can't believe that the black ones are over £200 for the pair new :| but really pleased with how the look when fitted. thought about getting silver ones but it would just look way too bling ;)

not surprised about the rear wing comments from everyone either  can't decide what to do though. i quite like the spoilerless with lip idea, but i'll need to find another bootlid or get holes filled and repainted so its hassles. Easiest bet would be just to drill more holes and put and STI wing on it, but they're not cheap (especially once painted). And when one crops up in WR Blue, the whole world seems to be competing to buy it (not that WR blue is common - its popular!) :D

Hongkongfooi 23-07-2010 08:28 AM

Looking good Steve.....like the front grilles, might have to get a lower one in black myself:doubleup:

Steve_PPP 23-07-2010 08:38 AM

Only hassle with the bug lower grill is that the number plate has to come off to fit it (to get to the screw holes). Not sure if the blob grill is the same.

And i'd only just stuck a new Euro plate on for Germany!

Oh don't say that

Nope, the current spare scooby cash is going to fund (the other) Nick's fmic, in return for his STI tmic and undertray.

Steve_PPP 03-08-2010 09:10 PM

latest additions:

STI7 bigger scoop (all the way from Scotland...)
http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...ofIMG_1351.jpg

And an STI top mount (all the way from Littlehampton  )
http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...ofIMG_1344.jpg

Still using the wrx undertray at the moment but the STI one will be on the car once its removed from Nicks :)

worzel 04-08-2010 09:30 AM

It's really good to see the chronological changes to the car mate.

It shows just how much of a good job you have done to it.

Top job matey :10: :10:

Steve_PPP 08-01-2011 05:33 PM

so this is the latest change :D

picked up a bootlid in the same colour this morning and fitted it this afternoon. was a bit dark in the photos as didnt finish until about 4:30pm but you get the idea.

not as many spoilerless newages around as classics, so its something different.

Bearo 08-01-2011 06:15 PM

Cars lookin good mate i like spoilerless bugs. Although im not a fan of morettes. The lights on this guys car looks best on bug eyes imo - http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1485075

Mortster 08-01-2011 06:16 PM

I like it. Wheres your black wheels though? Would look the nuts with them back on.

L.J.F 08-01-2011 09:13 PM

I do like the look of the Inovite Torque's:) whats the ET on them?

Steve_PPP 09-01-2011 12:18 AM

the inovit torques are still in the garage. put the old wheels on over winter because i have to use the car in the snow/ice and don't want to risk curbing the 18"s!

once we know theres no more snow coming, they'll be back :D

LJF - they are ET42 i think.

L.J.F 09-01-2011 12:50 AM

They are some lovely wheels mate i dont blame you for not using them;)

Hongkongfooi 09-01-2011 06:38 AM

thought you wanted an sti spoiler? so this is a surprise! I do think scoobs should have a spoiler though i'm afraid....and i wonder what the handling might be at 'speed' without it!

Don't think it's speed that's the issue it's when you brake/lift off from speed!

Nut a Spec D spoiler would look the nuts!

i'm indecisive about spoilers, and i thought i'd give this a go as the bootlid cropped up locally in the right colour!

i actually quite like it (i wasn't sure all along if i'm honest, i only decided once it was all fitted that i think it looks ok!). The idea in my mind was always that if i didn't like it, i'd drill one of the bootlids for a big spoiler (not necessarily an STI one).

With regards to downforce, i took it for a quick run yesterday and couldn't tell the difference. Haven't thrown it into any corners at high speed but don't think the wrx spoiler exactly did much in that sense in the first place :D

Cheers matey, i have to agree i prefer it over the wrx spoiler - maybe just because its something different!

Not sure if i'll keep it like that forever or not. I'm considering the one in this thread if i change my mind:
http://bbs.scoobynet.com/859457-adju...spoiler-2.html

Although i'd probably have the blade carbon wrapped.

Steve_PPP 18-03-2011 06:31 PM

Bit of an update.... now have a second bumper (thanks to Jura) with side spats and diffuser to go on :D

If anyones fancies giving me a hand over the weekend fitting the bumper, it'd be handy as its a two man job to get it lined up. I can supply tea and biscuits as a reward!

Longer term, not sure if the spoilerless look will stay or not..... indecisive as always! ;)

Thanks for the offer Tim, but the weather was so nice today i decided to have a go on my own. Didn't prove too difficult, even for a numpty like me :D

Masked up the rear quarters above the bumper ends just in case i slipped, trying to line up both sides when you're only holding the middle is a challenge!

Will get some pics in a bit :)

No black gunge at all, just a foam type seal thats compressed between the bodywork and light unit. :)

ralliart didz 20-03-2011 12:29 AM

well i think your cars wicked steve with the mods you have done on it

i think you should save up and get a big spoiler+boot as a spare then you can give it a change now and then.

as for telling if a spoiler is real or a copy. look at the brake lite,at each end the real ones have wot looks like a bullet tip on the end of the brake lite. copys dont. i not 100%

i wish i had a turbo

Not replied before as to be honest I wasn't sure on how the new bumper suited the car:-|

Kept popping in to have a look though and the more I look at it, the more i'm liking it:nod:

Does sit well spoilerless too:ok: If you opt to go back for the spoiler look, how about the S202, 03, 04 spoilers? think one of them would go well:ok:

The torque drifts look good on the piccie Jura posted up:cool: maybe worth consideration Steve?

Has to rank as one of the nicest bugs on the road mate:five:

Steve_PPP 23-03-2011 10:12 AM

Cheers Ron.

Everyone has different tastes and i've got no problems with some people saying it doesn't look right etc. A lot of people say the spoilerless doesn't work without it being slammed with wide wheels, but hey ho.

One of the S202/3 spoilers might be cool. Wouldn't want to spend a load on one to change my mind though!

Best way to be:ok: Think its always difficult when you mod something thats a good example anyway:nod: people see it for what it was and its that toss up between excellent clean example or modded clean example!

I think I would have been the same if it was my car, not sure if I liked it before or after:-| more often than not its the mods that your not sure about after fitment that turn out to be the best ones further down the line:ok:

Spoiler wise, how about trying one of those BMW lips on the rear?

Its got a couple of bolts on each end that go through the bumper, and i assume some trim tape/adhesive has also been used. It also has brackets that fit through the main bumper bolt mounts - its not coming off in a hurry!

Time for a bit of an update i think.

Did an evening session at Brands which went well, apart from melting a set of brand new Bluestuff NDX's (yes, the copper in them melts at 1100c, so a bit toasty).

Top marks to EBC who got involved with a thread on scoobynet, and they've sent me a replacement set of NDX's to try, as well as a set of yellows (for free). Seems there are issues with the pad on WRX 4 pots and EBC wanted people to try options and give feedback. Anyway, brake fluid change this morning was the final step before being ready for the Ring this weekend (cheers to Brent @ SMD for fitting me in, rather last minute!).

Other recent changes - i've sold the despoilered bootlid and currently gone back to the WRX one. Hopefully this won't be staying too long as I have a little project to work on.

Also picked up a set of blobeye lights :)

Really like how they look, make the back of the car look much newer, especially with the new bumper/diffuser.

Roll on Germany!!

Anger 26-05-2011 06:10 PM

I noticed the blob lights at the weekend and thought there new :)

ralliart didz 26-05-2011 06:55 PM

the blobeye lights look good steve :ok:as for the bluestuff brake pads not good,i was told they were good 4 track and road

Scooby_Greg 26-05-2011 07:32 PM

If so, i'm talking about the WRX spoiler, not the whole car! ;)

Not selling her yet, the ring trip has renewed my love for her, didn't miss a beat all weekend :D

That is quite a transformation there Steve.

Good job mate. Your car looked lovely in Germany.

Steve_PPP 18-06-2012 08:34 PM

Probably time for an update ;)

So... changes since June last year.... I bought an STI spoiler online for cheap (took a punt on it) and it turned out to be crap. But it was on the car for a few months before selling it again (at least i made my money back). This was the car at Japbash in Sept 2011.

After that, i saved up the pennies for a while and decided to address my problems with melting front brakes. So at Christmas, these arrived :D 356mm 8 pot Ksport kit from the group buy on Scoobynet, with bluestuff NDX pads.

They've totally transformed the car on track, and got some serious abuse at the Ring and even more so at Goodwood. They don't fade at all and the stopping power is just nuts. Might have to address the imbalance from front/rear as the below pic shows

After the brakes went on, my front splitter got broken (trodden on  ) so that was removed for a while. During this time, our friendly Admins at True Colours detailed the car - well chuffed with the result. :ok:

did your arse twitch

Steve_PPP 18-06-2012 08:47 PM

Last update.... bought a genuine STI spoiler to replace the crappy replica. Only problem was it was white (off Anger's trooper) so huge thanks to Tangowayne for painting the spoiler and bootlid, plus the new splitter and fog covers at the same time.

Fog lamps removed before new covers fitted, and all now done bodywork-wise. How the scoob looked at the Ring:

And at Goodwood:

Had a few moments when the buttocks wobbled, mainly when braking hard on a slight curve - wants to swap ends. But otherwise, Goodwood was great fun! :drive:

Steve_PPP 12-09-2012 12:09 PM

Had the car for 5 years now, and finally going to get round to decat/map. Its been running rich for a while anyway so i need to get the fuelling checked anyway.

This arrived today from the H&S group buy, shiny :)

http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...p/IMAG0280.jpg

It also weighs quite a bit less than i was expecting, i get the feeling the standard catted downpipe with all the heatshields on it must be at least twice as heavy.

SpecB 12-09-2012 06:26 PM

Overkill on the finish! Need to drive it upside down now!

Looks great, I have some spare heat wrap and stainless ties if you need some.

Just put an order in with Thermal Velocity earlier today

Scooby_Greg 12-09-2012 09:34 PM

Very shiny! Should free a few horses with a map Steve ;-)

Joel 12-09-2012 10:10 PM

Great write up Steve.

Will be good to see the results once fitted.

Nige 13-09-2012 01:47 AM

It will feel much better with a little more poke.

SpecB 13-09-2012 05:55 AM

Have you replaced the up-Pipe or was it de-catted on the PPP versions?
