steering pump

My power steering pump has starting making strange noises. If i put it on full lock the belt slips and the pump make a loudish whirring noise.Fluid levels are ok (no bubbles in fluid)
Is it worth just gettig a new pump or can they be repaired

if it was the belt i would expect it to make a noise from cold, sounds more like a pump fault to me.
