Old thread and i thought most new about the dodgy map... Oh and all the reason to go for the better specced twin scroll jdm, what hasnt had any engine failures i might add

Steve_PPP 13-09-2010 08:16 AM

Doesn't look too bright

Would seriously put me off buying one

belliott 13-09-2010 09:29 AM

and its all because people moaned about lag because they couldn't bothered to rev the old 2 litres and moaned, subaru just whacked out a poorer 2.5 to keep the lazier people happy. as anger has said give me the jdm 2 litre version anyday.

Moley_WRX 13-09-2010 12:49 PM

I thought they bought out the 2.5 in the UK to get through the EU emissions

That's right.

And don't forget, even when we had 2.0l engines over here they were not as good as the JDM ones. We're always second best, which is why I've only ever had JDM cars :)

My neighbour has the first privately owned uk registered sti hatch. Done around 14 thousand miles without any issues so far.............

Lucky 13-09-2010 07:20 PM

As already metioned, its not necessarily the engine that was the problem, but more the map it had from the factory. Its also only seemed to affect the initial batch (1st year or so) of STI's. Strange as the hawkeye had no issues, yet was the forst of the 2.5's, so you would have thought they would have got it right on the hatch too. And moley is right, they changed to the 2.5 due to emissions, nothing to do with torque, although the torque is nice . Saying that I do miss the punch in the back you get from the 2.0.
