Quick trip to the chemist,NOT!

Had to go and pick up my pain killers.
Ok , so got less than 1/2 mile and stuck, not even a hill.
Everyone were abandoning there cars, have never seen anything like it before.
To cut a long story short, i left uckfiled at 3.15pm to go to Crowborough and then back again, got home 2 minutes ago. 5 Furkin hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve_PPP 17-12-2010 08:59 PM

i know mate, its a nightmare.

Nutley was fooked earlier too, overturned lorry on the ice. Try getting that back on its wheels when the lifting equipment can't stop sliding around! :o

Yeah i heard that on souther sound.
I ended up cutting through maresfield and towards newick, then took a left to cut back into uckfield, just got around a jack knifed truck. No way they will move the truck its now wedged between the banks on either side of the road.

I managed to travel sideways, then backwards down a steep hill and straight across a junction, backwards!. Thank god it wasnt busy and I missed everything, but these tyres are just pants in this weather.

I trust you have been using the diffs in diff lock? much better when I changed to that...although I do have toyo's which might be better in the wet/snow than yours.

Nige 19-12-2010 06:18 AM

Snow socks & it dont matter what tyres you have there fantastic. You can stop turn accelerate [you know just like your meant to] they dont rub & they save your body panels. The only problem is you can drive around as normal everyone else is in limp mode so it get's very frustrating. Other people get very annoyed beeping, flashing lights & giving you the 2 fingered salute. They think your just mad & dangerous for me it's them who are the dangerous one's sliding all over the bloody place. :drive:

Tried both tim. Yesterday it was just left on auto, but tbh the whole diff thing isnt 100% clear to me. Usually I drive around with it rolled back to 1 green light which transfers more to the rear wheels, which is the way I like it, but in the snow I've tended to leave it in auto, rightly or wrongly????.

Looking to get some of these Nige. Have heard good things about them. Stupid question, I understand on a 2 wheel drive you only need 2, so for ours are we saying its 4??? or will 2 do?

Steve

Crowman 19-12-2010 12:39 PM

I saw an Audi RS6 with them on, everyone else skidding and slidding and he drove by like the roads were normal. He had them on all 4 wheels.

Chunk 20-12-2010 12:42 PM

Think i might get a couple of pairs for my snow fearing cars. However, the 190 was superb in the snow when i got caught out saturday

AndyWRX 20-12-2010 05:14 PM

My companys thinking of getting them next year because of the amount of snow weve had, the scoob has been fantastic in the snow espically with the diff lock :-)

Thing that really pisses me off is that some people dont have any common sense when driving in the snow, ie on the A23 people were stopping before going uphill and wondered why they got stuck when they didnt have any momentum, also people driving with 7" of snow on their roofs.

Bearo 20-12-2010 06:11 PM

Yeah its unbelievable how many people don't have a clue how to drive in this weather! I had some girl in her KA drivin up my arse this morning, let her past thinkin ur gona crash girl, its -6, black ice everywhere. I Kept my distance and...

10 seconds later shes driving sideways doing 70! I hit the brakes, SH*T my brakes are cold, no brakes, she hits the snowy reservation and barrier resulting in a big snow cloud. In that split second as she disappeared amidst the snow i imagined her bouncing off the barrier into my car. Luckily her car stopped still in the thick snow and i was gone. Felt bad for her but i couldn't stop in time with traffic behind swerving, etc.

worzel 21-12-2010 08:29 AM

It's absolutely ****ing shocking just how bad some people drive in this weather. Even people with 4WD!

For thos who don't know, Crowborough is the highest point in Sussex, basically a furkin great big hill! Everywhere you go you are on a hill of some sort. Yet people still either crawl at 5mph, causing a tail back of huge proportions, which when 1 person loses traction and comes to a halt, all those behind him are struggling to get going again.

Other wise they are driving with foot buried in the carpet, uphill, leaving a long streak of ice in their wakes. The people I have heard going past my house on the limiter, wheels spinning and driver staring madly ahead, is unbelievable. The roads are full of absolute ****ing cretins! Made ****ing worse still by "shoppers" you bunch of ****ing arse licking **** eaters and ****s!

:shark:

Chunk 21-12-2010 08:54 AM

Trouble is, people with 4x4/4wd think they are invincible.

My dad saw a scoob stuck on snow or ice, he drove straight past them in his Frontera, and a RWD merc also got past the scoob.

Its mostly down to driver ability & common sence

Mate, it's like the bloody "Cresta Run" Made worse by the amount of abandoned cars either side.

Thankfully a day of thaw yesterday has helped massively and things are back to semi normal. A few ice patches about this morning though.
