Coolant Smell

This morning the car had a strong coolant smell inside, did a quick check of the pipes, couldnt see anything obvious, but the passenger side of the wind screen looked like a sauna, and wouldnt clear. Any ideas?

Possible heater matrix leak, have you checked the carpet isn't wet, has the coolent level dropped at all?

C. J. 28-12-2010 10:08 AM

Matrix , which is a bit of a pain to change as half the dash comes out

Yep, theres water leaking slightly from the left side of the centre console. Looked through the PDF workshop guide and its rubbish. Any links to photos anyone?

Oh poo, not a nice job mate, I not done one on new age, but it's going to be a bitch.
I am sure someone on here will have a guide on how to do it.
Good luck mate

Can I run a ubend pipe just before it goes through the bulk head as a tempory fix?

admin 28-12-2010 01:37 PM

Yes, no heater though obviously:ok:

Could try rad weld.

And you can keep nice and warm for the price of a £10.

It worked on my citroen and has done for 3 years now.:ok:

But not sure about using it on a scoob though.

with a little initiative and rubber hose and jubliee clips it is possible to do it with dash still in.. not tried on a newage admittedly but I presumre it is dash out.

the dash needs to come out to allow the matrix in and out.. so you can bend the pipes to get it out and then cut them off the new one.. fit the matrix and then use rubber hose to repair etc

I did a mates on his merc 190 , never ever ever again, my god they are built well.
Shame it's not as easy as an old mini.

Well...I got this far, then gave up for the day. The support bars has to come out too, along with Airbag ECU, which need some funky alum keys.
