Fuel pump

Hi Guy's,

Just a quick question, is it important to have an uprated fuel pump??? I have a fully forged engine, sti4 heads, fmic, vf28, 440cc injectors and simtec ecu but have realised no uprated fuel pump.

Spooky 26-01-2011 01:09 PM

I would be going for a Walbro 255 for that setup. Assuming your going for 320bhp-ish?

Spot on spooks, that is what i am running now.. Is it doing any harm?? Does the pump make a lot of difference??

You're all mapped up with the OE pump now? If your mapped up i wouldn't worry too much, but i'd change next time you have a tweek...

Its more of a safty thing. Even thou a standard pump will cope, for the price of a pump an the 10mins to fit it's not worth the risk.

2-jaffacake-tone 26-01-2011 02:51 PM

Changing the pump won't affect the map as the fuel pressure is regulated.

midlife2 26-01-2011 02:59 PM

Thats what i thought Tone but asking Simon if i would need a tweek if i fitted a swirlpot and pump, he said i would

Anger 26-01-2011 03:05 PM

Yep same as i was going to add the swirl pot later, but have had it done now

midlife2 26-01-2011 03:08 PM

Hi Anger, did you wire it in yourself?

Anger 26-01-2011 03:13 PM

Stew at TFS Racing has done all the work mate, hes even taking it to Simon for me as im stuck at work

Tyler 26-01-2011 03:22 PM

Cheers guys..

Spook's car was mapped yes by JGM... :D

Cheers Tone, how you keeping mate, you better now??

Anger what is the swirl port for?? Is it to make sure there is a continuious flow of fuel at harsh conereing, so there is a seperate lil tank at the rear??

Anger 26-01-2011 03:28 PM

Yep i had it start to cut out from half a tank on tight corners mate

We had this discussion on P1WOC previously...

Pressure doesn't equate to flow, and on boost the walbro pump can deliver a lot more fuel into the same pressure. In practice the Walbro has little effect off boost since the ecu runs closed loop, but on boost the pump will cause more fuel to be fed into the engine due to the fact that the oem pressure reg cannot flow the same amount away from the rails that the pump delivers hence the pressure actualy does rise a bit. Its not a "problem" as such since the reason for fitting the pump should be that the performance is going to be hiked, the std pump is fine if the ecu is std.

Is it costly for the kit??

midlife2 26-01-2011 03:44 PM

Depends what fuel pump you go for

Sorry bud i ment the Swirl port... Seen Walbro 255 fuel pumps go for £85..

midlife2 26-01-2011 03:49 PM

Fuel pots are around the £80 mark but they use a 2nd fuel pump normally

Anger 26-01-2011 04:01 PM

Yep as said, i have the 255 feeding the swirl pot and a 044 to the injectors

Intresting, dose sound like your statment is aimed at a standard car with a oem pressure reg a oem ecu. Iv allways been under the impresson that 3 bar of fuel pressure is 3 bar of fuel pressure regardless the size of the pump.

do u have to be a menber of p1woc to veiw? if not can you send me the link.:)

asperformance 26-01-2011 05:21 PM

most std cars with a Walbro fitted will run slightly rich IME which supports what Spooky posted above.........

the std pump is only around 180ltrs/hr from memory

carry most pumps in stock wether Walbro or Bosch..........

midlife2 26-01-2011 05:31 PM

Price please for a bosch 044 with fittings to use standard pipework

asperformance 27-01-2011 02:46 PM

fittings would depend on how//where its to be mounted wether in-tank or external............

best to mail me info@asperformance.com or call the office 0191-4103770 and we can sort what you need.......
