Rear Brakes
In my preperation for the Ring I need to at least change the rear disks and pads, Ideally I'd like to redress the brake balance since I have AP 4pots on 330mmm disks on the front and the std 2 pot subaru calipers on the rears, I know I could fit Brembos either with STi hubs (possibility as I may be going 6 speed) or the godspeed thickened shoes. Are there any other good options out there?
Find a local company that re do shoes and ask for 12mm of pad or two lots of 6mm which is what the godspeed ones are .
Good call - Guess it all depends if I get a full 6 speed setup with the rear hubs or go for a built 5 speed.
go 6 speed and have done with it:wink:
Hi Nick,I wouldn't recommend the Godspeed fix.I've had it done and my handbrake is crap and always needs adjusting.Probably going to change my hubs.

as rich said the shoes never wear, IMO i think its a good idea to every now an then drive with the handbrake on a couple of clicks for a few seconds just to clean up,
or even better remove brake disc an clean an adjust, had sevreal customers with the Godspeed kit an had no problems. |
The Ring is not a heavy braking track [according to Niel] dont worry to much just ask Spunky! £15 is all he spent on brake upgrades last year & he reckoned he drove around all of you. Im still trying to get the vid off him :cuckoo:

Just want to even up the balance given the AP racing fronts (plus aesthetically even the sizes slightly!
if your thinking of fitting STi hubs, bear in mind you need the matching rear diff & shafts as they are a "set" and dont interchange with the std WRX/UK stuff.........
you could simply fit a better spec rear material to even things up though this doesn't address your "visual" request, mostly comes down to budget?? |
looks like I've found a 6speed with a R160 diff so won't need to change the hubs so Alyn what do you reccomend?

Arnt the hubs the same on bugs? I swaped one of my fronts to a STI one from Saj rather than messing about with the bearing.
Pretty sure the fronts are but the rear STI's have a different handbrake setup for the brembos
C.J. are all the UK 6 speed boxes the same ratio diff as mine, apart from the box, cradle and linkage what else do I need?
propshaft any 6 speed or an auto classic :)
should help on your diff ratio question

Tone, good to see you back - don't suppose you have a line on any cheap UK 6speeds? I'll even let you fit it!
I agree with Alyn, decent pads in the rear are usually enough for the rear of your already good 2 pot calipers. Time Attack Pro Class has been won on those calipers ;)
If you want it for looks, it depends what your budget is. |
sorry Bob you have mis quoted my post, i said about helping to "even things up" but ultimately on an AP front kitted car you can have an amazing amount of rear effort without it being "wasted".........
as with most things in life its more down to budget, if you have a "sensible" amount in mind i have these on offer.......8-) http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...rakeKit002.jpg and no messing with bigger shoes, etc. as its designed for the WRX/classic R160 hubbed cars |
