Revving high on idle?

Just been for a drive in my scooby and it's hunting at idle between 1500-2000 rpm, what could cause this?

Idle control vlave or MAF....

Try unplugging the MAF when it's running, if it continues to idle wrongly its probably the MAF, If it stalls the MAF is probably ok.

Try cleaning the idle control valve:doubleup:

MAF seems fine, having alot of trouble removing the idle valve as screws have been rounded!

When you clean the idle controll valver DO NOT remove the rubber gasket or you will never get it back in! if you do remove it you will need to buy another one, they are not expensive but you would need to take a trip to a Subaru dealer

Thanks for the advice!

If the problem returns, give the valve a little tap with a screwdriver handle, if the tick over drops then its time for a new valve.
I had the very same issue for a few months, a little tap on the valve would make the revs drop to correct tick over.
Ended up getting another valve and gaskets.
