My V5 Type R

Hi all,

Thought i'd start up a project thread on my car that I have owned for about 2 1/2 years now. I bought it after a break from modded cars, went from this, a 2003 WRX VLtd which I brought over from Japan pretty much new

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...Ltdontrack.jpg

to this, a 330 MSport convertible

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...e/IMG_0018.jpg

Anyway, I originally bought it from a Cumbrian Scoobys member with a fair few mods already carried out to it, the main one that caught my eye was a brand new EJ257 lump in it. Owner turned out to be a real nice genuine bloke who was forced to sell and was keen to keep in touch with how it went.

When I was looking at getting it this was how it looked in the ad, car can also be found in various build states on the Scoobytechnix website as they were responsible for all the work and have kept it on the site.

List of mods at this point were

Ej257 (2.5ltr) with a few sensible mods
Frontmount intercooler
Samco style intake pipe
K&N 57i induction kit
Lightweight pully set
Fuel pressure regulator
Uprated waterpump
Zero sports thermostat
Roger Clark modified oilpump
Mongoose 3" exhaust system
Eibach sports springs
Whiteline arb bushes
Whiteline rear droplinks
Whiteline rear adjustable arb
Recent front discs (slotted)
Ferrodo DS2500 pads
Goodridge hoses alround
DOT 5.1 racing fluid
Ultralite 18" alloys
Good toyo t1r tyres
22B bonnet vents (original supplied also)
Reverse main bonnet scoop (original supplied also)
Sti version 6 front splitter

After a long drive back from Kendal in Cumbria I was very impressed with the large amount of torque the car had, was showing 353bhp and 380lb/ft with rolling road print outs.

Famous last words, won't have to do anything to this car, it's modded enough already, very wrong I was there.

First things that I did to the car was to get a set of Morrette quad lights which i've always liked on classics along with some crystal black sidelights, that and a set of gauges and a PSI3 data monitor. Also I bought a set of Compomotive MO's in 17" as i'd always liked these wheels. After fitting them I wasn't so sure
Afterwards it looked liked this

After owning the car for a while I decided that i wanted more power, so on the shopping list was a TD05-20g of the Andy Forrest variety, a set of Lateral Modded injectors and a parallel fuel rail setup.

mid way through changing all the parts ready for the RR session

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8.../IMG_01621.jpg

This was all fitted and then off to the rollers, unfortunately my ecu decided to die on the rollers and I kind of ended up buying a syvecs ecu from the jolly green monster, the end result was still not what i was after and only ended up with around 370bhp and a loss in torque.

Carried on with the car like this for a while and then found a type ra vent for sale along with a roof lining which got fitted with a bit of help from Anger (cutting a big hole in my roof). Also found a set of BC coilovers which were pretty much new to fit (thanks to Surrey Subary Specialists (legacydan) for the fast road setup. This was the final result after getting the 18's put back in the car in a slightly different shade of green.

Again after a while of driving the car it was time to up the power to a figure that I had been looking to achieve which was 400bhp. I looked at replacing the parts which I had been advised were holding it back, so back out spending and on the list was a full 3" system, angled exit, and an RCM big cone filter.
Time for the rollers again

Again there were a few things holding the car back and it made 390bhp, so off to the drawing board again, a change of fuel filter and sorting the fuel pressure regulator and it was time to go back again, this was how it looked now

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...e/64493edc.jpg
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...e/91969326.jpg

and this was the final result although more work needs to be done due to the boost not being controlled properly.

This is how the car has stayed for a while due to not having much time to drive it due to working all the time.

Anyhows, I came across an MD555 from a friend recently which started me thinking, next thing I know i've bought a CDB and the car has come off the road for the start of a 2.1 build which i'll detail in steps as it is worked on. Got quite a lot of plans for the new direction of the car.
Fairly long first post on the car but thought i'd condense 2 1/2 years into a quick thread

Cheers
Chris

Thanks for the comments , forgot to add the following

The clutch started slipping after it had been upped to 370bhp, having looked around at a few different types I decided to try a Competition Clutch from Japspeed. I'd looked around and found these which are fairly new to the uk i believe and after talking to there tech department I decided on the 6 plate sprung paddle clutch.
While fitting the clutch and with very kind use of a friends ramp at his garage I undersealed all of the car to protect it against the climate here. Was pretty much spotless underneath so was easy to strip down and then treat

Finally this is the new turbo next to a vf22 i believe

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...e/592dc1d9.jpg

should hopefully return some good figures.

On the braking front I have just purchased a 335mm Godspeed setup with overhauled calipers from here, these will be going on the to do list along with a set up uprated whiteline rear anti roll bar mounts I got recently. Coupled with the rear whiteline anti roll bar and front and rear droplinks on it already i'm hoping to have sorted out the handling.

More to come soon once the cdb is strpped down and sent off for machining

Well, I bought the brakes from a member on here and found that they won't fit behind my current wheels. So I've been scouring around the Internet and got these for a steal from eBay
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...e/05321e33.jpg
Trying to decide what colour to do them, thinking I'm going to do two colours, possibly White rim with a black center or a black rim with green middle, sure this will change

Been a long time since I've updated this but with working away all the time not had time to spare on it, over the last year and a bit I've been with help from Dan at Surrey Subaru Specialists making a few changes to the car, 2.1 hasn't happened, still got the cdb ready but for now I've left the 2.5 in.
There has been lots of powder coating, interior has been changed, wheels changed again, various parts in the engine bay changed, bigger brakes fitted, 6 speed and the list goes on. Finally got it started this week thanks to Simon coming over and getting the newage coil packs and wideband working with the syvecs.
Here are a few pictures of how it stands now, looking forward to using it, be like a new car again where it's been so long

Just busy getting it road legal again for the 20th at prodrive

Still looks very nice and engine bay looks impressive! Good to see you haven't lost interest in it, gets frustrating when you can't drive it for a while!
