Anger 17-05-2011 05:38 PM

Needs a whole new engine... thinking of breaking it at the mo as just cant be assed to spend any more money on it

Will be going to Germany in the 22b

Skullfudge 17-05-2011 05:53 PM

Kin 'ell James, not another one.

I have a mate that has a 2.2 CBD and a shed load of other goodies he is just about to put on the 22B forum.
Engine is all Jun built in Japan and he won't want silly money.
He has a heap of proper parts that has amassed from years of racing Scoobs.

If you want to know more phone me 07867 887827 as I am going over his place tonight to collect a trailer from him and you can view all.

RobEvo5 18-05-2011 09:05 AM

Gutted for you James, I've probably missed a post or thread, but when/where did it happen ?. Was it on the strip, track or road use, and assume it was taking some punishment when it went.

kartingsteve 18-05-2011 09:14 AM

Gutted to see this post :sadnod:

If it was just small roads miles i would Chris, but i dont want to do over 1500miles on an engine that isnt mine, some of it pushing the car on track, if anything happens it will add to my bill that i cant afford as it is

Even thought about getting rid of the car the other night..

I need to get away and enjoy myself and come to a decission on what to do when i get back

worzel 18-05-2011 12:15 PM

I'm sure we will all help you enjoy yourself mate.

Like we have said many previous posts and threads about the trip. A good crack and a good drink with a bunch of mates.

Let the good times roll

Tim is right James, rubbish luck, but every cloud and all that, hopefully you will be able to build what you want out of it. Its a great car, stick with it.

666subaru 18-05-2011 04:06 PM

Too true, its a hell of a car James, so try and be positive mate.

Skullfudge 18-05-2011 04:14 PM

Get the ring over and return with a fresh approach James. Your car is tooooo nice to sell.
One of the nicest new ages I've seen.

Often there are good outcomes from mishaps.

jura11 18-05-2011 04:23 PM

James don't do this you will regret it at end, just chill out and re-think about that...

Good luck

Jura

No! Dont break it mate it not worth it in the long run. Sell a bit here & there. The money never mounts up as you tend to spend as you sell a part. Germany a Few beers & a re think. :drive:

Jolly Green Monster 18-05-2011 09:45 PM

Not good James..

As said my sti8 engine is there if you wanted to use it..

It is just lucky the head gasket went to alert of the other issues.. obviously previous owner of engine bits was diddled with fundemental issues which you are now facing the bill for :(

After a new build has so many problems, it does get you a bit down

But after a good chat with Stew today its helped me to think clearly again :)

Good man spoken like a proper trooper! It is gutting when your pride & joy end's up in bit's & it's not your own doing!
Is there any comeback on the guy who built the engine for Greig? It cant of done many miles & it's not been in yours that long. Might be worth a try mate. :drive:

SpecB 19-05-2011 07:05 AM

Be interesting to see what the original engine builder has to say.

Guy B 19-05-2011 07:42 AM

Nice one Angus, glad to hear the trooper will live again :ok:

The mistakes made are unbelievable and the damage for an engine with 2000 miles on it, aswell as SMG finding a crack in the block

sounds to me then that when the engine was built it was not fit for purpose so there for i would get onto them and get them to cough up for the re-build

Having spoken to James earlier, I could not agree more. Absolutely ****ing shocking workmanship involved.

scooby999 19-05-2011 04:12 PM

Are there any good engine builders out there????
These threads seem to be getting more common

When he is on land lol

I should have just got Stew at TFS Racing to build the engine from the start, but when the one popped up on here it looked and sounded perfect for what i wanted....

Picking up a 2.2 CDB tomorrow :)

ScoobySi 19-05-2011 06:49 PM

Picking up a CDB tomorrow ...... does that mean that the trooper will be fixed in time? Fingers crossed for ya mate.

Anger 19-05-2011 07:27 PM

No chance mate, changed my booking from the trooper to the 22b :)

C. J. 19-05-2011 07:34 PM

your making the right choice with a 2.35 , best all rounder

MC

Skullfudge 19-05-2011 09:11 PM

A difficult situation when this happens.

Regarding the engine builder & putting it right for nothing, I'll be amazed if that happens. I've known toooooo many engines to let go and the ONLY ones that will receive any form of compassion or financial reward are the ones that have a good bond & a close relationship with the builder/tuner.

Trouble being that many engine builders are governed by customers budgets.
A 500 Bhp lump seems the figure that many want at the moment and there are probably over 1000 combinations of achieving that power ranging from a few grand to 30 grand.

If poor assembly can be proven they may not have an option ? as it's often component failures that cause the issue.

worzel 20-05-2011 09:20 AM

Thats all very true Clive. James's problem is that he didn't actually spec the build and instead bought what should have been a properly built engine. If James had specced the engine, it would have been done properly, as I'm sure many people would vouch. He doesn't do things by halves.

I think that in this case it would be incredibly difficult to know where to apportion any blame, or if in fact you even could. Although looking at some of the build errors, they should never have happened. We can't comment on the specs given to the builders though, as the parts for the build list may have been not top notch. Speaking with James yesterday, he was saying there are parts that him & Stew can't even recognise the make on?

It's all a bit of a minefield really in this case, unfortunately, James is footing the bill for whichever one of the parties involved made a hash of.

Clive, I have been on the end of some snide comments in the past during my engine build. I'm sure you know the ones "just throwing money at it" kind of comments and much worse. But what I did do was spec as highly as I possibly could, I set myself a 420/420 bhp/nm target that was easily achievable (allegedly  ) and now I'm there I'm a very happy man. I know I have probably overspent on several occasions and the bit's I have bought are capable of much more, but I wanted bulletproof all the way and am 100% stopping at that.

That's probably set me up for blowing mine up now!!! :getmecoat:

Anger 20-05-2011 09:49 AM

The car at the moment has had well over 40k spent on it by me and the previous owners i know, everything apart from the engine is there to make it a very good car.. Why this time im building an engine to my own spec with Stew at TFS

You live and learn

Skullfudge 20-05-2011 10:34 AM

mmmm I feel for James on this one.

worzel 20-05-2011 10:50 AM

Same as :sadnod:

Like you say James, you live and learn. You know however, that your spec on the engine will make it the absolute nuts.

I am really looking forward to seeing it back out on the road. :drive:

Anger 20-05-2011 11:19 AM

It will be back better than ever :)

belliott 20-05-2011 11:54 AM

bugger james i didn't realise it was that bad, glad your getting sorted and at least with stew building it now you know it'll be spot on.

tbtstt 20-05-2011 12:46 PM

Only just spotted this thread on here; didn't realise quite how down you were about the car. :(

Glad to see you've talked yourself round and the Trooper will live again though!
