PC Virus protection

My McAfee virus protection is about to expire and before I renew I thought I would ask if anyone recommends anything better.I've had McAfee for about 4yrs and had no problems.Thanks.

Steve_PPP 17-09-2012 11:36 PM

How much is the renewal? Of the commercial (not free) products out there, McAfee's not too bad really imo (there's plenty worse).

Couple of others that are good are ESET (NOD32) - http://www.eset.co.uk/Home/NOD32-Antivirus and Kaspersky - http://www.kaspersky.co.uk/anti-virus

Tbh, if you're happy with how to use McAfee and happy with the renewal price, then theres not a lot of reason to change it. Unless you want a free product of course - AVG used to be the best freebie and i'm sure it still does the job but i got sick of the ever-inflating software suite it installs!

Microsoft security essentials, been using it for a few years now without any problems and it's free, gets pretty good reviews which is a shock for a Microsoft product lol

Hongkongfooi 18-09-2012 07:02 AM

i use kaspersky, very good

BIG"E" 18-09-2012 07:12 AM

Ive got AVG and its free.

andy-m 18-09-2012 07:34 AM

AVG here too. must have used it for about 10 years now !!

SeanMcKnetic 18-09-2012 08:32 AM

Agree with Big E and Andy M, I'd never put a Windows PC on a network without AVG enabled on it.

AVG on all of our computers and no issues. Can slow my laptop a bit while is starts its scan but then it it 6 years old now.

Bolesroor 18-09-2012 02:24 PM

AVG, the one time the kids downloaded Vicky Virus :boom: it was sorted by them remotely, never had any issues since.

I would highly recommend Avast..its used by alot of the major corporations,so much so that avast issue it to home users for free to try and catch virus and malware before it spreads .

download it ,register it for free and it will be yours for as long as you want to use it.I have been using it for 6 years and never had one single virus or malware since ive had it.

I use Sophos, well after this week that might change, they did a bit if a home goal this week, classifying their own software as a virus! Probably a disgruntled employee.

Kaspersky good in the past though quite resource heavy I found, also Panda anti virus.

Lost faith in mcafee as missed a few viruses when up to date on a couple of machines I have looked after. Though saying that I was looking after about 45,000 pc's.

Bull 21-09-2012 10:01 AM

good thing about avast is that if you have a low end pc it does not tie up to many resources.
