Red Barons Wings
This appears to have found its way into my garage!
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4700/...2a76cf9d_c.jpg Shane |
Looks like the top of my drive to me.....
Looking good Shane just how a scooby should ;-) |
That looks rather clean. Low mileage as well I bet?
|
Very nice Shane,
I do hope it was worth the :wife::wife::wife::wife::wife: Have and enjoy. :five: |
Looks lovely - great colour too!!
:SMBLU: |
very nice and clean mate :10:
|
Make a change from the usual silver, blue and green, I wasn't sure but it's growing on me along with the grey leather interior.
Looks clean but rear arches and the rear edge of the sunroof need sorting and wheels need a serious refurb (not helped by me grinding the curb after the test drive). Only 61K though with a full history and receipts for over £2k in the last 10 months for Cam belt, pulleys, tensioners, MAF and Lambda from Power Engineering and a new air con condensor and re-gas. Shane (I can see a change of user name coming up, Red Baron perhaps!) |
Nice, that looks very tidy.
Genuine Speedline ST2's? love that wheel on classics  |

Looks a very clean classic :)
|
looks great shane, nice one:ok:
|
That does look clean, welcome to the gang!
|
Makes a nice change to see a red classic..nice one!!!
|
Looks very nice! :-)
|
Nice car and gold wheels
|
Nice one Shane. I will keep an eye out for it.:-)

Not done an awful lot to her in the last year other than drive her and a service. Had a fresh MOT this morning with no problems and then treated her to a new set of number plates. Following the crowd with a standard size rear plate and a 3/4 size front.
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4664/...1cd513b8_c.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4666/...5b4fdec1_c.jpg Decat down pipe is next on the list I think and then start saving the pennies for an STI spoiler and get the arches sorted. |
Looking good Shane.
I must order some plates up too. Looks so much better with the 3/4 front. |
Think I'll start copyrighting that design. Your not the 1st one to use exact same colour and design as mine.
|
I hadn't realised it was exactly the same until I saw the picture of yours last night. I tried it with a red border and a red to silver and it didn't look right, didnt like any of the other logos either.

very nice looking. is it a ppp model, really like the wheels.
|
No, it has a Prodrive Backbox but following yesterdays MOT we discovered it's actually a modified Newage one. Not sure when the wheels found their way onto it. If anyone has a V6 Prodrive ECU kicking around I could be interested.
Wheels look even better when they manage to keep hold of their Centre Caps!!! Shane |
Well, more expense, just like any other Scoob, spotted this at the weekend:
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4701/...8a3b0055_c.jpg So a set of Godspeed grooved disks and kevlar pads going on at the weekend and then bed them in on the way to Brooklands on the Sunday. Going through the paperwork it's had a set of cheap disks and pads in the past from ebay but those pads aren't cheap ones, guess the guy before me put some decent ones in for the track days he did and the disks couldn't cope with the heat they generated. Lucky I spotted it really. Shane |
**** ! yep more money to spend least you spotted it mate
|
Quote:
Did you go to Alyn at AS Performance? if not you should have done for the new discs... |
Quote:
|
Very well spotted Shane.
|
Did speek to Alyn but was on a budget and got a deal from Godspeed for disks and pads. Pads were in it when I got it, no idea if they're round the wrong way or not but will double check everything when I change them at the weekend
|
Good spot that man :ok: Perhaps we should call you Hawkeye?
|
look to be the right way round (otherwise you would see 2 locator pin holes in the pads there?)
Disc looks properly finished! Which pads did you go with from Graham? |
Just his standard kevlar pads Dave, probably similar to the ones I was going to have off you.
|
Out with the new,in with the old
Picked up a new interior yesterday, leather was nice but a bit slippery and hot when the sun comes out. I must be the only person that fits an older cloth interior in place of a later leather one.
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4710/...f3e6700f_c.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4614/...bd02f548_c.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4650/...7e9dbc1f_c.jpg Should have shed a few kilos as well getting rid of the folding rear seats. Old style is just foam and wire https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4669/...931cba01_c.jpg Loads of metal on the later ones https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4751/...5da6727b_c.jpg |
they look in good knick, and the colours go well with the red bodywork
|
A couple of small marks but very little wear, will come up really well with a good clean. And they sit a bit lower so I've gained an inch or so in head room.
|
Always nice to have a bit more headroom, part of me is tempted to retro fit classic interior in my newage, I still maintain the classic seats are the most comfortable!
|
Bloody sun roof restricts my headroom even more so I need every bit I can get. Almost empted to whack a Carbon Fibre roof on it and bin the sunroof rather than get the rust repaired.

ps seats look good and in great nick as well |
Well, managed a hour or so tinkering time before the thunder storm and finished my DIY PPP conversion.
The car already had the Prodrive back box when I bought it plus the optional Speedline ST2 wheels. First change was the De Cat down pipe, I know the PPP involved binning the centre cat rather than the one in the down pipe but I'm not trying to meet emission regulations, parts to fit it were half the price of the downpipe. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4652/...0b79d677_c.jpg A few months ago I picked up a V5/6 PPP ECU and have been running that for the last few months with no problems, this should peak at 1.1 bar rather than the standard ECUs 1 bar. And finally I picked up the proper Intercooler pipework this week. Comparing the original plastic pipework and the replacement Alloy/silicon combination it should improve airflow through the intercooler considerably. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4670/...203898bc_c.jpg It's also nice seeing prodrive written on bits under the bonnet :) https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4756/...b8e5a256_c.jpg Next stop is SRR next month to see whether I've wasted my money on the ECU or not as I have my doubts over it's authenticity. |
Nice one and good luck @ SRR.
Are those ST2's 17" on standard springs? Do you know how roughly how the parts are for the PPP conversion? Cheers |
Yep, suspension is standard at the moment and the wheels are 17".
Think you were after the cost of the bits for the PPP, not exactly clear: ECU: £100-£150 Backbox: £100 Downpipe: £75 Intercooler Pipe: £25-£50 All prices are second hand obviously and are for MY99/00, not sure if it was available for earlier UK cars. Shane |
Sorry mate was a long day, lol.
Mines a MY01 so hopefully still compatible! I think that's quite reasonable, if its all plug and play. Thanks for that |
Original PPP brochure from Subaru and Prodrive
http://www.subaruclub.net/foorum_pic...mpreza-PPP.pdf Is yours a 2001 Bug eye or last of the classics? |
Last of the classics mate and trying hard to keep it standard but I see things like this and the mind wanders....
|
Well I'm toying with getting my original ECU remapped in the future so if my current PPP one turns out to be original I'll let you know. Need to save my pennies to get the body work sorted first though.
|
Couple of minor updates, finally had the old rust bucket dynoed at the SES rolling road day and was chuffed with the results for 15 year old car, running spot on and it's found over 30bhp since leaving the factory.
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4760/...b804d6a8_c.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4751/...125ac24b_c.jpg Since then it's all been cosmetic other than an MOT Zero Sport slam panel and a set of bonnet lifters https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4740/...45abd809_c.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4666/...b5cdecf5_c.jpg And then today some silicone coolant hoses that I've had kicking around for months and some fresh paint on the alternator cover and radiator brackets https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4704/...5f4396fc_c.jpg Next stop, rusty wheel arches!!!! |
Sell me your wheels
Looking good now. Have you one bonnet lifter or 2? |
It's a pair Nick, not enough strength in one to hold it up, may get away with one on an alloy bonnet. Have noticed there's 2 types available for the Classic, the ones on Scotts are shorter and mount on the next wing bolt back which means you can keep the rubber bump stops on top of the wings.
Wheels are staying I'm afraid, don't want to go to 18s and not nothing else in a 17 that I like. Not only that, I'm lucky enough to have a spare ST2 in the garage in perfect condition in case I damage one. |
I've never driven it in the fog anyway so a splash of paint and some eBay stickers and all sorted.
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4712/...60381915_c.jpg |
Can I be a real member of the gang now?
Honestly that looks much better dude ;)
Ps. Re your last post, I always thought the classics drove much better on 17" rims ;) |
They came out ok.
Just needs a Silversurfer splitter ;) |
Can't put the fog lights back in now anyway, the tin plate mounting rings disintegrated as soon as I touched them :-)
|
Hello Bro. Looks much better with the covers. We can probably make some fog light brackets if you cant find any or they are expensive. Is that a mini grille on the wall at the back?
|
Might be, there's a new rear valance and a radiator back there somewhere as well
|
Definitely looks better with the covers on it, nice job :ok:
|
My latest modification, 1 weeks worth (600 miles) of winter dirt, hoping it will help to hold the rear arches together for a little bit longer :) Glad to have the Civic back, cost me over £100 in petrol last week.
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4666/...7434a2b9_c.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4606/...e44d6d44_c.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4655/...efaa6920_c.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4762/...27a8f914_c.jpg |
There's something about a dirty scoob!
|
Quote:
|
Well I washed it, dried it, spent an unhealthy amount of time polishing an exhaust pipe and the made the mistake of having a quick run up the road to dry the brakes out before putting it back in the garage. The heavens opened and now it's dirty and wet again.

Spot the difference
Well I finally bit the bullet and went for it, only taken me 2 years to get it sorted.
Before https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4610/...2235e4ff_c.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4720/...b05e5318_c.jpg After, and this is a long time after, they'd deteriorated a lot since those photos were taken https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4706/...22683937_c.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4614/...71465551_c.jpg It had also started to bubble up round the rear of the sunroof so had that cut out and sorted along with some crispy bits round the rear jacking points on the sills. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4620/...f8ce11e1_c.jpg Think that's enough expenditure for a little while. Shane |
Looks like a good job!
|
Looks a good job done there mate :10:
|
Quote:
|
I can confirm, after I had a look today, that it's a very tidy job on the tin bashing considering how much was cut out.
|
Just noticed this shot showed how bad the passenger side had got
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4630/...ed45024c_c.jpg |
Looking good again Shane .
|
looks good work
|
You can stop moaning at me now.
|
Thats really nice in red. Who's doing the bodywork?
|
BW Coachworks who are based in Brede about 5 miles from Hastings.
|
Another one of those little jobs that I've been meaning to do and ideal for a miserable wet day.
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4625/...4c2792e0_c.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4716/...287ee97d_c.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4611/...6a01884d_c.jpg Just waiting for my "Genuine" Cusco battery clamp from Hong Kong now :-) |
looks very clean shane:ok:
|
It's coming together slowly, I have a full set of black silicone hoses I may fit and get rid of those white ones, those pulleys need sorting too. The classic engine bay is a lot more exposed than the newage so takes a bit more work to tidy up.
|
It's certainly tidier than it was when I was considering selling it this time 2 years ago.
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4678/...bf2b5208_c.jpg |
What paint you using Shane as looks a lot better think you need to do the battery tie down just to finish it off .
|
Whatever was on the shelf in the garage, will have to see how it copes with the heat from the header tank, as for the battery tie down, see the comment after the last photo, just waiting on ebay.
|
Out with the old
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4625/...ff5f2b80_c.jpg In with the new https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4764/...99f9db68_c.jpg Had the ARB and drop links in the garage for over a year so though it was about time I did them, especially as the drop links were mentioned on the MOT this year. Still got the front drop links to fit but it started raining so called it a day. |
Should notice difference with that change
|
The speed I drive probably not, looks nice though.
|
Good stuff Shane. I have pulled my whiteline arb and drop links from my damaged blue car only to discover they won't go on the black one as the black car has the traditional style drop links, not the 'C' shape ones!
|
Quote:
|
Quote:
I am yet to match them up C.J, it is possible the roll bar will fit, all I remember is when I ordered it Whiteline have two different part numbers for the two arb's dependant on the style of drop link. |
Quote:
|
If it's not a wide track it should fit
|
Quote:
'C' shape was standard on my 2003 blue one, the 2004 black one has the ball and socket type on the rear, similar to the fronts. The roll bar could still fit, I haven't tried to match it to what is currently on the car. |
Quote:
Mine isn't wide track so I still have hope! |
I thought drop links on a sti where different from the wrx or is that just on a classic .
|
Can I be a real member of the gang now?
Nice one Shane should make it a bit more pointy!
The ball joint links are win win rob no need to change them for uprated jobbys they are solid (unlike the plastic C shaped ones on earlier cars that need swapping for metal ones ideally) |
Quote:
I knew the ball joint drop links are better then the 'C'shaped ones which is good, it's just a case of what to do with my fairly new 22mm arb... |

Car died on me the other day just after leaving the in laws and refused to start although it coughed and spluttered a bit. Couldn't hear pump priming which seemed strange, after slamming the bonnet shut it fired up. New Fuel Pump fitted which then also refused to prime the fuel lines, much tracing of voltages showed no power getting to pump, managed to locate the pump relay and wiring (I'm going to ache tomorrow after contorting myself in the drivers footwell), shorted the pins which would usually switch the pump and everything sprang to life. Found that the switched 12V supply to the relay was good so relay became the main suspect. Connected relay direct to the battery and got it switching, must have been dirty relay contacts, all ok for now but going to replace it anyway.
Weather didn't help things yesterday https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4762/...4251e524_c.jpg But the wax is doing its job https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4677/...e2e833c0_c.jpg |
Nice work, going to have to do my arches as they look the same as yours used to and the jacking point.
|
|
Can it be frozen like that :)
|
Is that shorthand for sex followed by a cigarette ;)
|
Mine ticked over 77k today, I'll be taking a photo in 3,085 miles. :D
|
Quote:
|
Well the rear brake lines have all been replaced thanks to JonnyRicer and Whiteline front drop links have just gone on so that's the MOT advisories taken care of along with a service, time for a good clean, polish and wax and then time to get it up for sale :(
