P1 rear end makeover
This week & next week we are giving the back end & underside of a customers P1 a large makeover. Rear subframe was badly corroded & both rear brake pipes had been badly replaced at some time.
First job was to get the subframe out. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39...F2B6717C92.jpg The fuel tank is now out along with every lateral arm. The rear is having poly bushes throughout & all new bolts along with a lot of paintwork & underseal. Replacement subframe looks like this: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39...F2BD4478A2.jpg |
Looks like a nice refresh project starting there :)

More pics Dan please. :yeah:

looks good dan:ok:

Nice job Dan. Any other work planned for this scoob?
|
This is exactly the job I shall be undertaking on my STI in the new year as the same parts are pretty cacked up and need a good shot blast and a powder coat.
Are replacing the rear brake lines a big job?? Do you buy them pre shaped and bent or do you have to make the brake line angles yourself with a special tool??? Shall be following this thread closely and look forward to some more pics on progress. |

They are an easy job once the rear subframe & fuel tank are out of the way. |

Rear end cleaned & a few coats of red oxide in the vital places then 2 litres of underseal going on. |

After a litre of underseal, more to go on later. New brake pipes are in too. |
Thats not a tidy P1 under there before you started, has it been standing for a while Dan? :drive:

Fuel tank is back in, just got a new fuel filler neck to put in then the subframe back in. Tomorrow will be polybush's in the refurbished rear arms & all back together. I hope. |
Hubs could do with a tart up too!
|
Getting there, all polybush's are in & just the diff & a few other bits to go back on & that's it done for now.
