Oil levels
 

I just can't seem to get the oil level right on the bugeye, always checked other garage when cold, car has to be driven slowly down the access road and reversed into the garage so is given a good 2-3 mins of very gentle driving before parking. Garage floor is as near level as you'll find. Just to recap car specs forged 2.5 with oil cooler (mounted on its 'side' with mocal thermostatic plate) Grimmspeed AOS on vents PCV still connected.

Checked to oil last Wednesday before a drive to Swindon (230 mile round trip) and was 1/2 way between L & F checked it again this morning there was no residual oil on the stick, in fact it didn't even need wiping but the level was just below the L mark. I topped up about 300ml then drove to work and back (20 mins each way). Checked it again a second ago (car was nearly totally cool, stood for at least 3hrs) and it's showing over full!

How can I get consistent readings? Also I'm about to do an oil and filter change, is there a way to make sure I get as much oil out of the cooler as possible? (Apart from remove it!)

First thing in the morning with out starting

Always check it cold before driving, just seems to vary so much and the 'residual' oil on the dipstick varies greatly sometimes I can barely get a reading as it's all up the sides of the stick, other times it's totally clean.

Had this problem on my classic, I made a dipstick out of a length of flexible plastic (3mm diameter) doesn't seem to get the 'residual' oil up the sides of the stick.

glad someone else is having same problem, i was horrified to see almost no oil on my dipstick, few days earlier it was nearly full. will try above advice.

filled up other day and think i over filled slightly. but i have a leak somewhere that i need to investigate, so i suspect has lost a load since.
