Tyre Sizes
 

Hi guys,

Following the MOT advisory, I'm in need of new rubber, current size is 225/40/18 on genuine PFF7s (18 by 8).

What size could I run to get a bit more rubber in contact with the ground?

I run 235/40's with no problem

That's what I was thinking of going for, now to decide what tyres, do I stick to the t1r's or try something else?

Can you get T1rs ??

One of the options I'm considering along with waiting for it to warm up and getting 888s or R1rs

Nick T1Rs 225s are listed but 235s are not.

In my link they are 235s as I though you wanted to go up a size. :nod:

Think I might try the Hankooks then, as the 888s and R1r's are a bit pricey!

Another option, roughly same price as the Hankooks :)

Don't know if this site is reputable and how they test the tyres, but they seem to rank the Vredesteins pretty well. The Hankooks come up as better than the Falken FK452, but only just.

That site used to say basically that the T1Rs werent very good.

Tyres are a personal thing I had the Vredesteins and did not like them.

The reason I've said Hankooks is because they have been highly recommended to me by a tyre specialist at Camskills,

it is also the tyre RCM recommended Skullfudge to use.

They are what they describe as a bridging tyre ie between a road and track tyre.

You cant beet a good old tyre debate,

How many miles do you think you did on the Vredesteins before selling them? I've heard they take longer than normal for the release agent to burn off, could easily take several hundred miles with this tyre for some reason.

I wasn't sure about them at first either, they just felt twitchy. Did make me worry i'd spent 500 notes on the wrong tyres after your comments too. But now they're completely different :)

Thinking of the Hankooks now, the question is..... Is it really worth £26 a corner to move from the 225 to the 235s?

He sold them to fast.... He is the only person I know to not like them

Do you reckon the veds are better than the Hankooks?

When I buy new tyres I like to have confidence in them straight away, not drive around for miles feeling as if they are going to let go.

I have had many sets of tyres in my short period of driving and the Vreds just felt wrong, and I was not prepared to take any chances.

I put Toyo T1rs on (my second set) and from the start they grip.

Tyres are a personal thing and are always open to debate.

Speak to the specialists as I have extensively.

Camskills rate the V12s as do RCM this is why Clive rates them

But unfortunately you wont know until you've tried them for yourself everyone has a different driving style.

I think Chappers has vredestines on the P1, and last year at the ring he hated them!

Think I'm going to go for either another set of Toyo's or try the Hankooks.

I know you guys are running alot more bhp than me so grip is a big issue but ive got Toyo t1rs here and I can't fault them at the mo. I'd go for another set.

any one tried yokohama parada spec2 on the scoob?? i had a set on the bm gripped very well even in the wet!!

Maybe there suited to a heavier car, but they had no probs keeping my 560bhp under control at the ring, brands and on the drag strip

Having just changed from 225 T1R's to 225 Falkens (35 profile) the Falkens are slightly wider and look alot better then Toyo T1R's. They looked stretched on an 8 inch rim in comparison.

The old T1S's didn't look stretched as I had those when I fist got the wheels.

But haven't all if your cars been light weight stripped out beasties?!Martyn just said they were twitchy and wasnt very impressed.

I'm either sticking with toyo or going either pirelli or yoko advan ad08 next decisions as after spa next week they might need replacing:more:

I've just ordered some Federal RSR's to give a go... It's amazing that 255's are so much cheaper to buy :)

What about JJC race and rally? Just got a mag through the post from them and there's a big tyre section at the back, might be worth a look on there web site.

Might have come up with a solution that won't break the bank ......

I got a used set of 255/35/18 R888's at the weekend for 400, not bad when you think there nearly £250 each

T1R's don't seem to work well on Newage cars, the sidewalls are too soft.

I've just fitted another set of Vredesteins to mine, they are a fantastc tyre. (IMO)

However, i fancy giving the Federal RSR's a go, have heard some great reviews on then

I didn't like them on the RA either... Made the back end very twitchy... So much so that I kept my R888's on all through the winter

I've been happy with my Toyo's but given the number of comments re. the soft sidewalls I think it may be time for a change, just a shame they're £100 cheaper than anything else!

If the Pirellis or Dmacks don't come off, I'm thinking of trying the Federals.

Sticking to the 225s for cost reasons, just ordered a set of the V12's from Camskill!

I'm looking for some budget 225/40/18's for my Mondeo :lol: ;)

So when are putting them on?:ok:

They were 'only' 380 delivered, not sure if I'll put them on before Goodwood, I'll have a good look at the current tyres over the weekend and work out if I can get away with leaving them on.

If u did change them will have enough time to run them in before track day just a thought
