Racing Legends - BBC

Some of you may have seen the various comments on Facebook over the last few months about filming for a BBC documentary on Colin McRae. Seems the show is part of a "Racing Legends" series showing on BBC2 next week.

Episode 1 (27th December, 8PM) is fronted by Patrick Stewart and details the career of Stiring Moss.

Episode 2 (28th December, 8PM) is fronted by Chris Hoy and details the career Colin McRae.

Episode 3 (TBA) is fronted by James Martin and details the career of Jackie Stewart.

Slightly odd choice of presenters in my opinion, but hopefully they are all worth a watch. More blurb on the shows in the series on the BBC website:

I've subsequently been told that both James Martin and Chris Hoy are both Petrolheads, so fingers crossed they make a decent job of presenting the programmes!

No you won't be able to view beyond seven days exactly. You need to record 'series'. You should get the option when you click on the program you wish to record unless there's no more in the series.

James Martin did a documentary a few years back showing his preparation and then taking part in the Mille Miglia. He is a big petrolhead, but still seems a bit of an odd choice.

Its not a genuine Group A car in the programme? Thats a shame, though I guess not entirely a surprise as I understand Chris Hoy gets to drive it!

asperformance 23-12-2012 04:21 PM

it IS a genuine grpA car BUT its not Mcrae's old car as it would appear to be in the program...........

First episode tonight. BBC 2 8.00 pm

tbtstt 27-12-2012 12:30 PM

Online TV guides are now saying the Stirling Moss episode is tonight...

http://www.tvguide.co.uk/channellist...MWPXUBGQQLIVWO

...and the Jackie Stewart episode is tomorrow:

http://www.tvguide.co.uk/channellist...MWPXUBGQQLIVWO

Now can't see a date on the McRae programme yet? Anyone spotted it on the Sky planner?

Scott.T 27-12-2012 07:38 PM

they may of produced it but the way things are at the bbc maybe they are reconsidering airing it. due to the damming report on the reasons for the helicopter crash.

Unless I've missed another report, the last release with regards to the crash was months ago, they have only been filming quite recently.

Yes, but the BBC have also had a lot of grief very recently, which might be the cause of the rethink, rather than new info re McRae

BIG"E" 27-12-2012 10:13 PM

Really enjoyed the first of three.

Sir Stirling Moss how cool is he, certainly has lived life to the full.

I didn't realise they had British grand prixs at Aintree?:yeah:

Well worth watching..

Steve_PPP 28-12-2012 10:25 PM

Just watched the Stirling Moss one (i'm a day behind watching stuff on sky+). What a cracking programme

Amazing that he survived the crash at Goodwood, hitting the bank at St. Marys at about 100mph with no seatbelt and a helmet that was designed for polo horse riders....

If you look on Google Earth you can see pretty much the whole circuit is still there. Nice to see it hasn't been dug up.

Scott.T 28-12-2012 10:57 PM

great one again tonight on Jackie Stewart.
i highly recommend his biography if you havnt read it.

tbtstt 29-12-2012 02:56 PM

Really enjoyed the two shown so far, would like to know when (if) we are going to see the McRae programme though.

EDIT: BBC programme page still indicates there are three episodes in the series, "more information coming soon":

first two episodes were great they certainly had big kahunas back then, did see somewhere on scoobynet that the mcrae one will not be shown, someone supposed to have phoned bbc and was told not being shown but bbc would not give a reason why??????

asperformance 31-12-2012 07:08 PM

there is apparently some sort of "contractural dispute" which is the reason for the Mcrae program delay.........

tbtstt 16-01-2013 08:59 AM

Couple of websites now saying that the McRae programme will air 27th January, can't see it on the TV guide yet, so fingers crossed!

tbtstt 17-01-2013 10:15 AM

Forgive the double post, but the BBC site now confirms the 27th January air date for the McRae programme:

ralliart didz 27-01-2013 09:25 PM

BIG"E" 27-01-2013 11:04 PM

Really enjoyed that..:10:

tbtstt 27-01-2013 11:23 PM

Yeah, really enjoyed that, definately worth the wait.

(Wonder if some of the Top Gear team were responsible for the filming? Thought some of it was very TG in style)

Steve_PPP 28-01-2013 12:13 AM

Great programme. 2001 in Wales was superb - the Burns/McRae battle at the final round of the WRC that year. Spectators everywhere in those days, such an atmosphere. Wish the sport was still as popular these days.

SUBARMAN 28-01-2013 10:29 AM

Brilliant :10:

Some excellent footage from the Subaru days I had not seen before.

:SMBLU:

Ginola 28-01-2013 05:22 PM

Was a great watch, was quite jealous at the end when they let him lose in L555 BAT !!!one!11! :tissue: was thinking ... "Don't you dare bend that!!" but after reading AS's post above I feel abit better :))
