Default Re: SES @ Nurbergring May 29th - June 1st

I was asked these question earlier and thought I share the answers with you all...

Are helmets required?
No. But I always wear one as do most people I know who are driving quickly. My attitude to wearing a helmet was cemented when I was one of the first on the scene to an accident involving a driver who didn't wear one, 'luckily' the injuries was superficial and he was fine in the end after a few stitches.

Hospitals nearby?
Yes, there's one in Adenau plus bigger ones in Mayen, Koblenz, Cologne, Bonn. The track is very well catered for in case of accidents and emergencies during races. To give you an idea, last year 3 air ambulances landed within 10 minutes of each other on the track, that wouldn't happen in many other villages let alone cities in England.

Kerbs on track?
Some kerbs you can ride, others avoid. It's easy to tell which.

Tyres?
RE070's are my tyre of choice so far. I find that the stronger sidewalls allow me to corner faster i.e. 140mph through the Fuchsrohle if I'm on a quick lap. Tyre life is good too.

R888's, I struggled with the correct track pressures in these. One of the guys from TimeAttack told me his pressures recently so I'll try them next time I get a set. Obviously these tyres have a high rate of wear. I destroyed a set of 4 in one week last summer.

Brakes?
Noobs have a habit of cooking brakes due to lack of circuit knowledge. They go flat out then brake as they are unsure of what corner is next. Start slow and build your speed up. Last year I had the owner of a 500bhp Evo running semi slicks come over to me in the car park asking what I had done to my car as he couldn't keep up... my car was completely standard at the time

Excuse the quality of the video but the guy driving the MX5 gives you an idea of how little braking is needed if you know the track.
