The White Prototype was/is a group N donor car (V5 type R) that Prodrive had available to enable testing/development to begin whilst awaiting the Blue show cars (press vehicles), which were Blue Type R's that were finaly modded to look like the finished P1's.
The final P1's were vehicle specific cars and not type R's with bits removed or added by Prodrive

the cars were fitted out in Japan and finished in the UK by Prodrive.

A P1 isn't a Type R with bits removed, it best described as a V6 4 door built into a 2 door bodyshell with Type R suspension. Bit more complex than that as some parts were fitted in Japan and more were fitted in the UK but it's more correct than saying it's a low spec Type R.

Being the only variant to carry the Prodrive name still makes the P1 a little special to the enthusiasts, bare in mind it was the demand for the vehicle that increased the production run from 500 IIRC to the final 1000.... so demand for the vehicle has always been there.
Type R or P1 comes down to individual taste IMO and what the individual wants from the car. Personaly I would rather the P1, especially the White 1

but again this is just my opinion.
