The way the media have interpreted the comments about his licensing issues have annoyed me somewhat; he was out of check, yes, but they portray it as if he never had the relevant training on that type. As with all things aviation in the UK though, you must be "legal to crash" and McRae wasn't.

Sadly the view of some of those within the aviation community of McRae isn't great. There are a few folks who have seen the video taken onboard and I understand its a fairly damming indication as to how he was flying on the day. I would like to read the final AAIB report as, given the tone of the news reports so far, I assume they are certain it was nothing more than pilot error - or its possible that the media have skimmed the report and drawn from it what they want to make a good headline...

As for the Scoobynet comments - and as I said on Surrey earlier - just proves what a bunch of ****wits the vast majority of posters on there are.

Irrespective though, he is still to be respected as a huge talent behind the wheel and his death is a massive loss to the world of rally and motorsport in general (in my opinion).
