I certainly would not class Apple products as mid range?? Their OS's are far better than most and they are also responsible for most leaps in computer technology used by the mainstream.
I'm no expert on computers but I use them 24/7 and rate the Mac's as the best by a mile.

How to say at moment PC are same and too Mac,before Mac has been unique with RISC CPU,now using same components like PC which you can built for half price.
I've before MBP few months and i've been fed up with this,due this i'm running Hackintosh PC with 12GB ram and 4.4ghz i7-930,i'm using mine for making music and some design works,but for work in 3DS Max and Maya,AutoDesk AutoCad Windows is best.
About the the graphics,Apple using the lowest specs of graphics,just try play on Mac Pro Crysis 1 or 2 on highest details and 16AA/AAF in 2560x1920,you will see what is best.
Apple OS is great,Windows is too great,last 7 is just great and i'm using this mainly on mine projects.Mac OSX i'm using only for making music with Logic Pro,if this program will be on PC i wouldn't never think about the Mac OSX.
