...£260 is daylight robbery for a set of pads - I've bought kevlar pads and front discs for my Hawk WRX for far, far less than that, courtesy of GoodSpeed... (If you're prepared to do the pads youself of course which isn't hard tbh...

BUT... first thing I'd check if you've only done 2000 miles is that the pad wear indicator is not just a bit bent and touching the disc - I had this on mine, when I had loads left on the pad...
Look for a thin piece of metal attached to the edge of the pad that is bend to resemble this kind of shape |_____________|. If it's a bit bent, then the | bits might be touching the disc a bit prematurely, and the garage are perhaps just trying it on...
