Not sure what those brackets would do that you refer too.
There would be very little flex in that direction as all the force is in the rotational direction.
I discussed things like this with a guy I know that does alot of brake modifications for Mk1 and Mk2 rally Escorts. We were talking about the brackets I needed to make for the rear Brembo's (see thread above).
He helped me conclude that the brackets don't need to be that thick as all the forces are in the other direction. The standard mounting for the rears is just a bit of bent 2-3mm steel plate.
As you've already noticed though, you will need specific bolts for the Front Brembo's as they use a different pitch thread compared to the steel 4-pots.
