I wear a closed face Shoei one, came in handy on Monday when I was taken round track in a Radical, would not have been allowed out in an openface lid, also means you can take it Karting and not have to borrow a stinky loan lid.. + doubles up for bikes if that's your thing.
As far as safety in a road car goes.. Its abit 10 of 1 and half a dozen of another, in a side impact you would want to be wearing it.. but front or rear and it will amplify whip lash effects due to extra weight on your head, really we should all have collars and HANS devices!
