British Rallycross Championship R6 2016 – Lydden Hill
August bank holidays were meant for one thing: motorsport! Pleasingly the sun was out (for the first August bank holiday in a couple of years), so photos and sunburn were the order of the day.
I’ll start with my fave, Steve Hill getting his line through the chicane a bit wrong…
Tom Llewellin (son of Dai Llewellin) was racing in the Junior Swifts. He won by a massive margin and definitely stood out as a driver to watch in the future.
Simon Horton had a pretty miserable day in his Impreza. He blew the rear diff in practise and had more gremlins strike later in the day. He did make it out for the semi-final though where he managed to do some big slides, so the day wasn’t a total loss.
Dan Rooke continued his impressive debut season in a rallycross Supercar. He won the final, increasing his Championship lead in the progress. With just two rounds there is a growing possibility that Dan can do it: a lot can go wrong in two rounds though!
Steve Hill wasn’t the only driver who got the chicane wrong!
Chrissy Palmer spanked the field of RX150 buggies, making it six wins from six rounds in 2016.
Rob Gibson wasn’t running his 6R4, so Barry Stewart and Ray Morgan were fighting for Retro honours, with Stewart eventually emerging victorious.
Great day and nice to have an August meet at Lydden where wet weather gear wasn’t required. With the promise of a close fight for the 2016 Supercar title I am very tempted to drive to Croft for the final round: it’s just a pity it’s such an epic trek up North!
