Bugs or blobs, are screwed together allot better than classics IMO, and bugeyes currently represent great value for money. But I still like the the proportions of a classic.
If you like classics, I would personally always go for UK MY99/00 or very late MY98 with the facelift bumper and 440cc injectors as standard. Depsite UK's having a 40-60bhp dissavantage on paper to an early WRX, In real world driving a late UK is just as quick and a nicer drive with a quick spooling TD04 turbo and feels allot more solid from my experience.
Plus a late UK classic is a great platform for modding. A decat, panel filter and Apexi, or ECUTEK takes you to circa 270bhp on the standard turbo and intercooler. Or VF28/35,decat, STI8 intercooler takes you over 300bhp as proven by Scott.t.
Scott.t's car has the optimium balance between performance, day to day drivability, and value for money mods for power gains IMO.
Oh and because UK classics are slightly overlooked In my opinion, they also represent good value for money, and you tend to be able to get unmolested FSSH, straight examples.
I often see early 1994/5 Import WRX's with a few mods trying to go for the same money as a MY99. Which to me is madness, when the MY99 is a UK car and 5 years younger, probably with FSH, and a good straight honest car.
Anyone with early WRX's please don't flame me - This is all just IMHO of course.!
