theres a distinction to how each car is used, there no 'right or wrong'
on a 'working car' like yours the cooling would be needed most of the time and as such probably negates the need for a 'stat'.
The issue raised about where to fit it, is at best a pointless argument. So long as its fitted correctly in the location of choice there should be no issues.
Its a shame we can't see where Chris has fitted his, because i'm sure by the response people are interested!
