97RON is fine you can even run it on 95RON but will notice the difference as it will reduce the timing to suite.
IIRC it is a legal requirement for all UK cars to be able to run on 95 RON.
But due to the timing adjustment required and adjusted by the ECU to run 95RON the car will probably run less efficient then on 97RON and hence the pennies saved at the pump are lost in poorer fuel economy.
I run mine on 97RON (Esso Normally), or 99RON Tesco. Very rarley use V-Power.
If you run it on 97RON then fill up with 99 RON and notice a difference within a few miles then 99RON is allowing a bit more timing advance.
'BUT' the ECU will only allow a certain amount of timing advance.
The car may be quite happily running the maximum on 97RON.
