I know how you feel. My Mum's cats would always jump on my car and lay on the bonnet where the scoop is and the windscreen.
Not much you can do. The heat of the engine and so on will still attract them.
Even if you use a lot of protection like wax of sealent the cats will still bugger it up.
Where is the car kept? If in a driveway you could use a light bed sheet but this can be time consuming after a whiel and also in the summer will make your car sweat loosing the protection etc.
