Assuming it's a cheap ebay special turbo's from the usa of china or thaiwan origin, they are just tat..cheap copies with very little quality control.
You may get kucky and get a good one but there are more bad than good.
Some so called TD05-18G have the actuator mounting too far round on the compresssor housing which then requires a flexi oil feed pipe rather then the standard OE hard pipe.
Not a great expense but a big inconvenience if you were hoping to fit it and drive off in a day, only to find you now need to order a flexi oil feed from elsewhere.
No-one will rebuild the turbo from the USA as the quility is ****e and any reputable comapny will be able to tell that very quickly. The likes of turbo dynamics or turbo technics wouldjust advise you bin it.
the cost to refurb the other turbo would also be alot of money if you use OE spec parts.
The best bet is to keep a look out for a TD or VF range going cheap ona forum that you know is coming of a running car for upgrade purposes only.
Ultimatley buy a new one from a good tuner, but depending on what you go for will cost £750 - £1800 plus remapping if you go bigger.
Even if the car is mapped for the 18G I would seriously consider getting it remapped even if another 18G is fitted as the cheap ebay US unit is likley to flow very different to a quality one.
