If it's a genuine 18G core with a quality compressor then the rebuild kit will work. but I doubt it is.
But if it's genuine then I doubt very much it failed, as the TD's are pretty bullet proof.
The problem with the cheap units is quality control and tolerances. They can be so far out that they perform badly with regard to airflow and compressing the air and/or the seals wear really quickly due to poor tolerance.
