Post An update regarding SES forums

Hi Folks,

We've emailed all members this evening with a bit of an update. Hopefully it will answer some of the questions we've been hearing from people.

In case your registered email address is no longer in use, I'll paste the email here. You can then use this thread for comments/feedback/suggestions if you wish.

Cheers all, and enjoy the forums

Dear _____,

We realise that a lot has been changing with SES over the last few months, and as we haven't emailed our members during that time, we thought it was about time we gave you all an update.

In reference to the last email from SES, dated 6th August 2012 - regarding the imminent wipe of the SES database. There were thought to be a number of issues with the database and it was thought that the forum may be unstable. We know this has discouraged some members from posting (concerned that their posts would be lost in the wipe).

As you are probably aware, during the last month or so, SES has undergone a change in Administrators. The new Admin team (Steve_PPP and Silversurfer) have spent the last few weeks investigating the technical issues and we can now give you the following information:

- The current database is a safe and stable platform to continue with, as normal. Hence, SES will not be restarting from scratch.

- We have managed to recover a stable version of the database which contains the threads lost when the previous Admin team encountered problems and rolled back (threads dated May 2011 - June 2012). We *hope* to be able to merge these back into the live SES database.

- If this is not possible, we will (at minimum) be able to offer a read only version of the lost threads as an archive - which you will be able to browse, and retrieve important information to copy/paste back into the live SES forum if appropriate. All of the lost posts, links and photos from the last year will be available

We had to take the time to understand the technical issues behind the scenes, and we thank you all for your patience. We now know there is no rush or indeed any current requirement to move to a new version of vBulletin, and SES will continue to operate for the forseable future with the current version - long may it continue!

Lastly, Thanks to you all for continuing to support SES during these difficult times.

Best Regards,

Admin Team
