Default British Rallycross Championship R1 2019 – Silverstone

It's been too many months since I have seen any motorsport so, despite my reservations about the circuit, I popped up to Silverstone for the opening round of the British Rallycross Championship.

Few of my fave cars from the day:

With defending Champion Mark Higgins not returning this year it looked like Ollie O'Donovan and Julian Godfrey would be fighting for the title...

...but with O'Donovan suffering engine issues in the practise session, none of the British Champion regulars seemed able to stick with Godfrey.

Reigning Irish Champion Derek Tohill was the only driver who looked capable of beating Julian, but even he couldn't stop Godfrey from clean sweeping the heats.

The Retro class had a great entry, with several Group B cars in the mix.

Tristan Ovenden was the man to beat in Super National last year and he looks set to continue that this year, winning in his Clio V6 again.

Steve Harris had a dreadful morning in his RS200 when it seemed to refuse to behave itself. When the car started working though, it was an absolute missile and Harris came from the back of the grid to win.

In the Supercar final Godfrey made a clean break from the line and, although Tohill kept him in sight, he couldn't catch Julian.

Tohill went on to take a well deserved second. I hope Derek returns again later in the year as, if he was a bit tidier, I think he could have beaten Godfrey.

Few more pictures from Silverstone here, if any of you are interested. Next round is at Lydden at the end of the month, can't wait!
