£4k puts you firmly into newage cars unless you're looking for a special edition or mint classic.

If you're after a wrx, you should be able to get a blobeye for your money (2003-2005 shape). No major issues to be aware of, just look for good service history and any accident damage. A lot of cars have non-standard parts fitted so if you find a car online that you're going to look at, feel free to post the details up and i'm sure we'll be able to offer advice
