Pretty sickening shunt to watch wasn't it. If that had happened 3 years ago, he'd be gone. The halo did an amazing job of pushing the armco up and over his head, otherwise there's every chance that would have been fatal.
Like Shane says, lots of learn from. They were incredibly lucky that Grosjean remained conscious (despite a 53G impact) and could get himself out of the car, as neither the firefighting equipment in the medical car or the trackside marshals would have been able to put the fire out and allow rescuers to retrieve the driver manually in time.
Incredibly lucky chap.
