I think I got put in the Platinum group when I was moved from the Admin status
maybe for services rendered
Usergroup rankings were added just to give those who posted more frequently a little acknowledgment for the accumulated posts
sort of a bit of a thankyou (acknowledgment) as its the people who post that make a forum work
One year we changed everyone over to xmas elves and stuff
