Default Remote key playing up

My 03 wrx has suddenly started not accepting the button u lock on the key.
For a long time I've literally had to be next to the car for it to work.
I've replaced both fobs with new Sony batteries today and am locking/unlocking it on the key then the button press works whilst inside the car.
I'm guessing it needs reprograming.
anyone got any experience with this problem?
Fairly urgent lol.

you can get a 2nd hand key off ebay and program it to your car very easily to at least test if the range etc works better then you would know if yours has gone duff ,, or just reprogram yours anyway via the keypad - i paid £5 for a secondhand key off ebay iirc

eventually as my car came with no spare and i wasnt going to pay subaru extortionate prices for a key i cut the blade off the programmed 2nd hand key and used it as a remote blipper to go with a key with programmed transponder i sourced locally from a key place for £45 - so the key did the immob and ignition and the fob worked the alarm and remote cl

Could you please explain how I reprogram my key via the keypad.
The trouble is I've literally got to have the key at the drivers window lol for it to work.

something like this stuff - http://www.scoobynet.com/security-16...a-key-fob.html

if youve got the owners manuals its all explained in there tbh which is what i used for reference

i think you need the four digit pin for your car ,, hopefully the previous owners passed that info on or left the stickers somewhere - mine didnt but handily if you have a working key you can reprogram your own override code and make a new pin no which is what i had to do - it wasnt hard and took about 5 minutes searching on google to find this secret process

once i had all the info from the net the whole pin reprogramming and remote fob programming literally took ten minutes and worked first time
