Default Misfire After Plug Change

Hi

After changing the spark plugs on my uk year 2000 turbo today(no go faster parts installed) i've now got an hideous misfire.(plug gap not checked, NGK PFR6B, that was what was in there)

It really is bad from idle through to the upper rev range but most noticeable on wide open throttle.

I've disconnected the battery for about 3 hrs to attempt an ecu reset then went out for a mixed drive of some 20 miles but nothing improved.

Any suggestions please. If the air box hadn't been put back together properly could this cause it?

sorry if this sounds bad. but have you made sure the leads are the right way round? and on all the way.
if it was ok before then maybe put the old plugs back and try it. also make sure evrey think is pluged in/pipes on etc might of just pulled somthink off when changing them

Doesn't sound bad at all.

I changed 1 plug at a time, taking 1 lead off at a time so know the leads match to the correct plug. Looks like I'll be taking everything apart again. This was my 1st time changing the plugs and oh boy was it NOT fun.

make sure the plugs are right in and that are nipped up tight and that the leads/coilpacks are on properly

Could be dodgy plug from new.
Also did you gap the plugs?

Does yours have single coil pack or one per plug?

No coil pack at all just straight forward HT leads.
I must admit I didn't check the gaps, don't have a feeler gauge. I wouldn't have thought they'd be that out of tolerance straight from the manufactuer. How sensitive are these vehicles to spark gap?

should be fine on a standard ish car out the box unless they have been dropped or something, only ever gapped plugs once and that was for mappin, couldnt tell any difference after, only noticed it on the lap top apparantly

make sure plug leads are on tight.
it sometimes takes a few attempts to get the lead onto plug fully and it should fix home with a 'click'.

sorted.

washer bottle side, plug 4, nearly half the ceramic was missing. now i dont know how this happened. i didn't inspect the plugs before i installed them but i like to think i would have spotted this before installation.

pulling the plug at an angle when tighterning can crack them. glad its sorted
