Default Idle Control Valve

i have a 95-STI-RA engine in my wagon and I am getting error code 24 (ICV)

if I am correct, the beige thing in the pic below is the throttle position sensor and the aluminium lump it sits in which bolts to the manifold is the idle control valve ?

Anyone have and advice or a guide on how to clean it? anything I shoudl be aware of before I start so I dont muck something up ?

Hi mate , I changed mine on old classic as it was playing up . When tickover was high or in fact low if I tapped it with handle of screwdriver it would cure it .

Make sure you get a gasket before removing it , mine was stuck and ruined as I removed unit .
I cleaned with brake cleaner and it worked again for a few months . Ended up getting a 2nd hand one .

thanks, mine isnt bad enough to need a tap yet. the idle only drops a little some times and blipping the throttle cures it. ECL only comes on when going down hill off teh throttle for 20 seconds or more.
wish I had taken the old one off my last scoob before it got scrapped !
