Default Vulcan out of action for 3 weeks minimum

GUTTED............not yet seen her flying and was looking forward to seeing her at the dawlish air show while on holiday this week in devon. What a perfect venue i thought, but it was not to be.
The big bird has sprung a fuel leak and will not display at dawlish, bournemouth or shoreham. There's gonna be alot of sad faces this weekend.

i used to live near Shoreham airport when i was a kid. i must have been about 10 years old when i heard a rumbling noise and cups and plates rattling in the kitchen. me, my brother and mum came running out and saw the Vulcan heading straight towards our house. it was flying very low and the noise was unbelievable. it must have been returning to some place after doing the air show . wont ever forget that.

Yes this is bad news!!

Very unlikely to be serviceable for Dunsfold either. We have been lucky to see XH558 twice this year, and will be going up to Doncaster at the end of October for the Members Day. Otherwise "completely gutted" would be how I would be feeling now!

But it is a 60 year old plane required to be maintained to modern aviation standards, and it's serviceability this year has been excellent, so can't grumble really.

It's sad it is not at Shoreham, but as the e-mail said, you can't take any chances with a fuel leak. 2-3 week fix hopefully.

was lucky enough that one of my fathers friends was involved with the Sunderland preservation society (or whatever its called) when theirs was first delivered.......we got a guided tour of the plane, etc. - after seeing it land for the last time

saw the flying one most recently as it did a low'ish "fly-by" of Elvington in what was a stonking end to TOTB................

immense to see
