Default Gentle pulsing/surging on acceleration

Hi guys, just added a 2001 Forester to the collection car is standard as far as I'm aware (did have an aftermarket filter fitted, not sure on make but defo not K&N looked cheap and was filthy so back on a std motoquip filter).

As far as I can tell the engine is basically the same as the original one from my Bugeye WRX not sure what the standard turbo is though.

The car surges/pulses under anything other than light acceleration, no other symptoms idles and drives faultlessly at a constant speed. Best way to describe it is when you accelerate its like you are pumping the accelerator, it picks up, drops back, picks up etc.

I've tried cleaning the BCS but haven't driven it since, I didn't get any noise in test mode but I believe his is normal, should I have run 12V through it as I cleaned it?

Sounds like a overboosting issue. Check for split pipes, and any signs of boost pipework being previously tampered with. Looking out for things like checking the restrictor pill is still in pipework etc, or although clean maybe a dead bcs.

Edited. OOOOooooo. 861 posts again

Pretty sure it's poor boost control but don't have a gauge in the car yet to see what's happening. Have got my eye on a genuine Lamco/Subaru item but it's a bit pricey. There's not really any subtle gauge pods for the forester and I want to keep it as std as possible (well on the surface anyway!).
All boost pipework looks OE to me and no obvious splits, also feels like the restrictor is still there as well. The recirculating valve looks OE to me but it has two vac take offs which I'm not sure I've seen before?

Plumb the turbo direct to actuator bypassing bcs. Boost will be a little lower but it should smooth it out if a bcs issue.

Cheers Tim, if its free I can just hold it in with double sided tape until the issue is sorted then remove it until I find a subtle pod for the forester, I'll pm you address and let me send something for postage etc.
