Default Exhaust ideas

Hi, I have recently swapped my stock bugeye wrx that had a WRsport back box, for a stock Hawkeye wrx.

I am looking to get a bit more of the old noise back as I find the Hawkeye a bit quiet.

Can I do this with just a back box change or would I need to change the complete system with remaps etc

Thanks

Jason

This is my topic as I had 5 in total on my hawk!!

Best bet is to change the resonated section (attached to the back box) and then put a louder back box on. I had a WRX blob with a WR sport/Prodrive back box that sounded nice. When I got my hawk I was disappointed with the sound. First I put the old WR/prodrive Back box on which made a bit of a difference but not much. Then changed the resonated section for non res, which was better again, it started to get a bit of burble back. I then changed the back box for an TSL back box which was much better. In the end it had an afterburner vortex back box which sounded nice and burbled nicely!!!. I then went decat right through which sounded nice but was too loud!!!!!

So, I would change the resonated section and go for an afterburner/TSL/Hayward and Scott/Ninja - along those lines. Think you'll find the prodrive too quiet.

The only time you will need a remap, assuming its standard at the moment is if you start taking cats out.

Hope that helps!

Hi Lucky. Thanks for the info.

So non res section and back box to make it sound like a proper impreza again.

Hope to hear a few examples at saturdays meet.

Any tips on where to get the best deals on these ?

Jas

I got mine from Scoobyworld from memory. It was about £100. It does make a big difference though. The 2.5 does seem to have a different noise than the 2.0. I could never get it quite as 'deep' or 'rumbly' as the 2.0, although it still sounded like a scoob, which they dont as standard!!!

Great thanks. £100 with or without silencer and £220 for the back box.

Not too expensive for S/Steel parts. I might try the back box 1st then add the centre section.

I would do it the other way around. The centre section made a bigger difference than the back box.

I would do it this way round as its only two bolts.

then if you want more noise take out the resonated section.

Sorry to disagree Lucky...

Agreed, may save some money but I guarantee he'll end up changing both . Those resonated sections really deaden the sound on the hawk.

I will probably end up changing both as I want to go stainless steel anyway.

Thanks for your advise

Exhaust update. I was offered a vortex afterburner back box and the car sounds great. Not as loud as I was expecting, but my hawk now sounds like it should. Will prob stick with a resonated center section now.

Thanks for your help

Excellent. Nice exhaust the vortex. I still give it a few weeks before you get tempted to do the res section tho

It has a nice sound. Not sure about the 4.5 inch tube though. Fancy something that has a similar sound but a bit more like stock in terms of looks. If it exists.

Hi. Anyone with any experience of the rear silence made by race box as sold by scoobyworld. Quite like the look of the 3.5" rolled rear pipe.

Thanks

Jas
