Default British Rallycross Championship, Round 5 - Lydden Hill

A little belated, but here is a selection of my snaps from Round 5 of the British Rallycross Championship, as held at Lydden Hill in Kent.

It was quite a major event for a British Rallycross round as a number of European competitors were in attendance, plus there was a guest driver in the form of a certain Marcus Gronholm. A lot of hype was made about his appearance and he really didn't disappoint...

(How tiny does the Exige look?! Thankfully the Exige driver managed to dodge the flying Fiesta)

And for those of you wondering how Gronholm got his car up there for the first photo, here is a sequence of shots taken from that corner...

...yep, he did the whole hairpin turn on two wheels. One of the most incredible bits of car control I've ever seen. A lot of the rallycross supercars lift the two inside wheels on that turn, but Gronholm's car rotated so rapidly I was sure he was going to roll it.

Cheers mate! Sadly I didn't have enough zoom to get the same shot as him. I thought it was quite amusing that everyone with cameras started peering, but then he followed suit and pointed his TV camera over there as well...

...cameraman is only human like the rest of us I guess!

Sorry for the double post chaps, but I've just seen that the video of the Gronholm incident is now online:

Also - and its not a particularly good picture - but I thought I'd post this up here...

...check out the front left tyre: lucky the sidewall had so much give in it!
