Default Anyone know about tvs and external hard drives?
I have an external hd connected to my telly. My dad has seen it and wants one too. My one is a 1tb seagate which is powered from the mains. Will an external drive work if powered from the USB on a tv too?

Don't know much about using them with tellys, but generally a USB port will struggle to power a spinning physically hard disk. Solid state storage (like USB keys etc) will work fine as they use a lot less power, but I wouldn't expect something like a 1TB seagate disk to work without mains power....

Some will, some won't depends on the spec of the USB port. If they're not connected by a USB hub they should be ok. My boys Xbox runs an external hard drive directly from its USB port no problem.

I have a 2.5 1tb iomega USB drive powered by my samsung.. Works a treat & no bulky power supply

Generally speaking 3.5" ext HDDs require a power adapter and 2.5" ext HDDs do not. The 2.5" can work off one USB port but often the cables supplied have a double USB end for the computer connection to provide enough power as sometimes one USB port will not suffice.

I have no knowledge or experience of connecting an ext HDD to a TV
