Beaumont Hamel Panoramic
This is one of the panoramic pictures, from my recent trip to the Somme Battlefields.
I have posted this before, but it was very quickly processed first time round. It is one of a small list that I am going to spend a bit of time on processing properly. This was one of the really moving venues on the trip, this is where the Newfoundland Regiment lost nearly 80% of it's TOTAL number 600+ out of 800 men were killed or missing. Including 3 brothers. The vast majority were lost on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 31st July 1916. Mainly down to the German machine gun posts. This panoramic takes in the entire battlefield and is taken from on top of the Newfoundland monument. The arrows on the wall on the left of the picture, point in the direction the Newfoundlanders took in the battle. Lest we forget. Last edited by worzel; 30-11-2010 at 09:13 AM. |
