Default RCM Modified Oil Pump - Worth it?

HI All,

Looking at some safe-guarding mods along with my gearbox and wondered whether it would be worth going to a modified oil pump.

I see RCM do a 10mm (standard) 11mm, or 12mm version which is meant to improve oil pressure - is this a worth while modification in peoples mind?

Now before it goes down that direction - no im not going to be tracking the car every weekend, and yes I only drive at 40mph

But I wondered whether uprating the oil pump thus giving the engine better oil feed would be something that would help prolong its life? Especially as my oil pump is 15yrs old now and so I guess might not be working as well as it would have been new.

Appreciate your thoughts........................................an d abuse

I replaced mine with a brand new OEM oil pump when engine was getting built seems to be doing the job just fine at the moment not saying it will get changed in the future though .

Yeah just thought whilst doing it, it might be worth the slight upgrade e.t.c.

Like when you do a cambelt change it makes sense to change the water pump at same time e.t.c (although I know this is mainly done whilst you have access!)

Thanks C.J - but you think it may be a worthwhile investment?

Are there any downsides to fitting an uprated oil pump I guess is what I mean to say?

You may need an additional restrictor in the turbo feed line but it depends on the pressure at Idle and the turbo you are running.

oil pumps definately are not from the school of "biggest is best" and you ideally want it matched to your spec & use.............

Thanks alyn, I'll discuss on phone with you when I place the order about whether you think 11mm or 10mm would be best

I'd speak to an engine builder and ask if needed new oem or rcm version.

I assume you mean FB Tuning helping with fitting a baffled sump, rather than needing a map tweak after one?

I've got a lateral baffled sump on mine, can't see any reason it would ever affect a map....? its just ensuring good pickup and stopping oil starvation. Or did i misinterpret your post?
