I've just had a mobile subaru mechanic round to look at my scoob it's making a really loud noise when on boost sounds like the turbo noise u get from the induction kit but 10 times louder but it's not smoking and there's no play in the shaft this noise only started after I removed the headders and the uppipe to take a rattling heat shield off drove fine for around 150 miles after this but then started making the noise I know the mechanics probably right but just wanted to get a second opinion before I buy a turbo any ideas ?

SMD are in Newhaven are brilliant and quite close by. Stuart and his Dad of East Sussex Mobile Services are also very good. CJ on here is also worth asking, again he knows his stuff. Hopefully that's of some help.....

It was Stewart that came round he said he's pretty sure it's the turbo but I would need to remove it to tell for sure

Can repost what put up earlier then...
If Stuart says it is the turbo, you can pretty much guarantee it is in my experience. The man knows his stuff and has the benefit of seeing/hearing problem 1st hand. Remember, advice here only based on the description you provide and whist you are drawing on a deep pool of experience, it's only ever 2nd hand... Good luck with sorting the problem ![]() |

I appreciate your dilemma, I've not heard of the other people you used so can't pass comment on them. I'd take it to SMD and let them deal with it personally. Hope you get it sorted.

Update ; turbos now off I've taken it out to Stewart so he can get a better look at it and it looks like a couple of veins are slightly bent and it does have slight play in the shaft so now I need to decide on wether to rebuild this one replace it with another vf35 or upgrade to a bigger turbo Stewart has a vf28 up for sale so i could fit that any advice would be appreciated

I spoke to John, 110 for a basic rebuild, could be more depending if other things are needed. 280 for a billet conversion + full rebuild of everything full stop. Stuart has a 16g, I have a vf24.
