Default ASDA Charity Day at Bruntingthorpe on 9th August 2014

Ok guys, I've started the thread for the ASDA Charity Day on the P1WOC today. Some of you guys were joining us last year and think they enjoyed the day. So if you lot would like to join us again for this year, please let me know. Chris Buckler told us last year that we have a standing invitation for this year. I'm sure he'll contact me soon and in the meantime we can start the list already.

ASDA Charity Day will take place at RAF Bruntingthorpe, which is only 45 minutes north of London, on 9th August 2014.

It's awesome fun and one of the best events of the year and all you petrol heads and your families will hugely enjoy this.

This show is NOT open to the public but invite only and last year more than £40,000 were raised for the chosen charity. Any ideas to raise some more money are more than welcome.

You can take your own car round the track for free as often as you want to, provided you take a passenger along who had paid £5 for donation at the gates.

Accomodation: The Hinckley Island Hotel, where we stayed Friday and Saturday last year is £55 per room per night when you mention that you want to book it for the ASDA Charity DAY. The quote is "On your marks). http://www.thehotelcollection.co.uk/...eicestershire/

!!!! Attention please:
The info below is still to be confirmed and I only copied and pasted it from last year's thread. I'm pretty sure it will all be about the same this year but I'll update this first post as soon as I hear about any changes.

Entrance is actually free for car club members but we would like to ask everybody who is attending for a donation of £5 or £10 per pass which I will collect again when I give you your passes and will then hand it over to Chris Buckler. One pass per car, no matter how many people are in it. Passes will be handed out in the hotel or at gate.

Food & drinks are excellent and much cheaper than normal shows (no profit).

The pits are full up with every petrol heads dream cars.

Pay £5.00 and jump in any car you like for a fast lap. Lap includes a longggggg straight and plenty of twisties. Many gates so there are NO queues.

Lambo's, Ferrari's, All Skylines (up to 1000 bhp), AMG Mercs, TVR's, Corvette's, Evo's, Scoobies and many more.

Air Displays run for much of the day including wing walkers.

Fire Brigade display how they tackle a raging fire. Sirens and the full works putting out a blazing caravan.

You can drive 40 foot artics, hovercrafts and JCB type machines ALL £ 5.00 each.

We will have a template of the tickets so we can print off as many as you guys need.

No queues, ample parking and easy to get to.

(This is classed as a "Private Event". Due the insurance matters regarding rides in cars it can not be advertised to invite the general public)

Ok, I think this should do for the moment. If you like to come along, please just put your name on the list. Would be nice to have you with us again.

As I`m off that Saturday it would be rude not to go again. Those considering this, it is a really good day out, with lots of cars to drool over and pay your £5 to experience a ride in some fantastic cars and all for a great cause.

Sounds great, Stu.

Guys, I forgot to add a list for the people who would like to take others round the track in their cars. Done now. Also for people who haven't been there yet, the £5 or £10 donation are per car pass, not per person. (edited in my first post)

Request for support of Lutterworth food bank

A lady, Anna, posted the following in the ASDA-thread on Scoobycity, who also join us for the day again:

Can I suggest as a club that we support the Lutterworth food bank through those members that are going to Bruntingthorpe.

Last year I saw the benefits of food banks at first hand. A friend, someone very close to me a single Mum with no support from her ex
basically bringing up her children on her own. She was in desperate need.
She was so grateful to the people in the local town and surrounding area.

It sounds silly but a bag of pasta/rice, tin of beans/ tomatoes can mean a lot to a family or to anyone that hasn't any food in the cupboard.
If those people that are booked onto the stand can go with a bag of food each or even half a bag of food it would mean so much to a lot of people.

I think it's a lovely idea to do something for the people who are not as lucky as we are and thought I post it on here, too. So if you guys brought some food to Bruntingthorpe to support the Lutterworth food bank, this would be a really nice gesture. Many thanks in advance, guys.

Also, if more of you guys want to join us, you are more than welcome to come along. The more the merrier.

Great idea Kerstin. What do food banks accept, I'm guessing mainly tinned items? See you put pasta and rice also so will put a bit together for it.

That's fine, Simon. Scoobies are preferred as it will be the Scooby gate where you start from, but if you can't bring it, the R32 will be fine, too.

Just had a reply from Anna, lads. She wrote dried goods such as rice, pasta, tea, toiletries such as soap can be be either bar or liquid, also toilet rolls, shower gel even nappies. Tinned tomatoes, soup, beans, hot dogs, tinned vegs, tinned puddings like rice, fruit are all gladly accepted.

Anything that is basic food shopping :- tinned /packet that is well in date
Nothing that is frozen fresh or has a short life span.

I have talked to Chris Buckler about the procedures of this year and he told me it will be the same as last year, guys. So here goes a bit more info of the day, most of all for the guys who haven't been there before.

STAND PASS INFO

Clive (Skullfudge) will kindly print out the passes for us again. As stated in the first post of this thread, entry for car clubs is free but a donation of £5 or £10 is requested which I will collect again when I give you your passes and will then hand it over to Chris Buckler.

How to get your passes:

- in hotel or
- at the gate at Bruntingthorpe Airfield (postcode
LE17 5QS) at 8 am on Saturday morning or
- you can drive to the Shell petrol station at Coventry Road near Broughton Astley (postcode LE9 6QD), fill up with V Power then go across the road and wait in the pub car-park, where we need to leave at approx 7 20am to be at the airfield at 8 am.

OUT ON TRACK

You are welcome to take your own cars around for one lap or as many as you want but you will need a passenger that has paid £5.00 for the lap. You will be tugged by the event organisers if they see a driver only in a car.

You can't stay out on track for multi laps. You can only do one lap at a time, then drive into the large pit area where many public will be lined up to jump in. The public would have already paid a fiver.

Drive at your own pace as it's not a race. Helmets are an option but not compulsory.

You will also need a special ticket / pass to allow you to go on track driving your own car.
These passes can be shared between the lads who offer passenger rides as they must be evident when out on track. There will be plenty available.

There will be a drivers meeting at 8 30am. A few of you guys need to go to that and then pass the info to everyone else although most of you know the rules by now.

RIDES AS A PASSENGER

If you would prefer to leave your car on the stand all day and jump in other cars as a passenger that is fine and no problem at all.

You will find the pits are extremely busy all day, and you can jump in any car of your choice (for a fiver). Helmets are an option but not compulsory.

ATTRACTIONS

There are many other attractions going on all day what you can participate in:

4x4 off road motors that are giving rides ,full size 40 foot Asda trucks you can drive and several other things.
There is normally something going on in the sky for a large chunk of the day from stunt displays - Spitfires to wing walkers.

MUNCH

All food & drink is non profitable so the prices are less than you would normally pay and it's not cheap stuff.

KIDS

There are many activities for all ages of children. ASDA do base this single day event on the whole family.

NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

As mentioned before this event is "invite only". It's not advertised to the public anywhere.

Hi Paul, they usually meet in the car park across the road from the Shell garage, have copied over Kerstins `how to get passes`

Like I said, Simon, Scoobies are preferred because it's the Scooby gate where the laps start. But of course you can bring the Golf R32 if you can't get the Scooby ready. Are you still offering laps?

A massive thank you to Bolesroor and Intow

Hi guys, I just wanted to post this as I am totally overwhelmed. I've got to start with some sad news though because Steve (Bolesroor) informed me that he and his wife Liz unfortunately can't make ASDA-day now. However, because they still wanted to contribute something to the good cause they have sent me a truly generous donation which left me speechless. Steve and Liz, this was such a wonderful and lovely thing to do and I really can't thank you enough for this!!! You both are really awesome. Chris Buckler will be so grateful for this when I give him our donations.

Once again thank you so much, Steve and Liz, and all my very best wishes to you both. I hope so much to see you both next year.

Lots of love
Kerstin xxxxx

Your welcome.

Its a real shame to be missing this but as Kerstin has said this is really one of the events of the year with some great cars on track for you to enjoy a lap or 2 and loads to see and do off it.

Also thought I bump this post again:

Request for support of Lutterworth food bank

A member of Scoobycity, Anna (tagalong), posted the following in the ASDA-thread on Scoobycity:

If you think of bringing something with you,
dried goods such as rice, pasta, tea, toiletries such as soap can be be either bar or liquid, also toilet rolls, shower gel even nappies are all possible. Also tinned tomatoes, soup, beans, hot dogs, tinned vegs, tinned puddings like rice, fruit.
Anything that is basic food shopping :- tinned /packet that is well in date. Things that most of us take for granted really. Nothing that is frozen fresh or has a short life span. Cheers, guys.

In case you think you won't make it to the Shell garage by 7.20 am or to the gate by 8 am on Saturday, please, let me know early enough so that we can sort something out, guys. The last thing I want is you standing in front of the gate not being able to get in because you can't get hold of us as reception for mobiles is not good at the airfield.

Donations for Lutterworth Foodbank

If you brought donations for Lutterworth Foodbank, they will be at the gate from 7 am. So we can leave the donations there. Cheers, guys.

Great day, thanks Kerstin for organising, was good to meet you. Need to recover now as did 300 mile round trip plus about 80 to 100 miles round the track, some of it on two wheels going through the Esses, some nice cars there, next year hopefully the Scoob will be back in action.

It was such an awesome time again with you lot and it was just so great seeing you guys again and putting some new faces to usernames. Such a shame I didn't get the chance to chat to you longer and really hope I'll meet you again soon and we've got more time. Also, I want to appologise for not getting the chance to say good bye to some of you but it's so difficult because everything is so spread out.

Jason, Stu and Paul, I'm just so glad you got in. Phew!! Unfortunately I just found your message when I came back from the event because we had already left the hotel when you posted it and I haven't internet access on my antic mobile. We need to sort this out better next year.

Will post my pics up possibly tomorrow. Oh, talking about pics, I told some of you lot that I had lost my camera at the airfield. Well, back in the hotel I found it: It had been in my rucksack all the time. I couldn't believe it, I was searching my rucksack high and low at the airfield but it was in a pocket where I had never ever expected it to be. Well, fortunately my boyfriend took a few pics which I will sort out later.

Last but not least, a MASSIVE thank you to all of you for all your donations and most of all to the guys who did the passenger laps. We, as the P1WOC, South East Scoobies and Scoobycity donated £460 and Chris Buckler phoned me right after the event, being well over the moon when he told me that alltogether we made £2300 (donations and money for the laps) at the Subaru gate. Once again many, many thanks to all of you. Can't wait to seeing you all again at ASDA-day next year. xxxxxx

PS: Once again also a HUGE thank you to Steve and Liz for your kind and generous donation although you unfortunately couldn't make the event. Chris Buckler was really touched about this wonderful gesture of yours.

Just thought I put Chris Buckler's post up on here which he posted on Facebook:

Well ....What a great day....great weather, great people, loads to see and do.....
Many thanks to all the Subaru people and all the other lads who turned up to do their bit on the track.
Good to see the WR1OC... P1WOC...SIDC.....South East Scoobies....Scooby City...we need more clubs next year though.
We took on the Subaru gate £2,300.....so top marks to everyone,we had Chris and Chris taking the cash,Roger Jelley sorting the punters out....what a team.
Big thanks to Kerstin from the P1WOC for all her help and Clives dear wife also.
Rock-on next year, don't miss it folks.
Hopefully we should make £40,000 in total,I'll let you know as soon as Asda tell me,thanks again.
Subaru has now supported this event for 12 years and over those years Asda have raised over £300,000......Orchid are the main charity this year along with Wishes for Kids. Have a safe trip home everyone and thank-you.
Got to say....I feel knackered but well chuffed.

So here are my piccies, guys. Well, a lot of them are stolen from Colin as I thought I had lost my camera some time in the morning and only found out that it was in my rucksack all the time when I was back in the hotel. Old age I guess. Unfortunately this means that I don't have pics of all your cars. But hope you enjoy them anyway. In case you can't see them, please let me know. I just copied and pasted them from the WOC. Not sure if this works.
